National Park Tips: To Look Down on Yosemite Valley, Go Here First - by Christopher Reynolds/ Travel/ The Los Angeles Times/ latimes.com.

"Welcome to Yosemite. Now get out of the valley. There’s way more to the park in the high country. Start with Glacier Point, which offers incredible views of Half Dome and Yosemite valley. If crowds are too thick there, walk or drive a mile south to Washburn Point. Different angle, fewer people...."

Yosemite is our family's special place, and a couple of weeks ago, our daughter was married there. They broke with tradition and did sunset photos the day before their wedding and they were rewarded with an amazing sunset followed by the rising harvest moon. This picture was taken at Glacier Point:

Thanks for posting this.

Just got back from a high country backpacking trip in Yosemite and Tioga Pass Road already had its first seasonal closure yesterday due to snow. We passed through Highway 120 around 4 pm and it was closed at 7 pm due to adverse weather conditions.

Looking forward to the other National Park highlights from the series.

Yes, Glacier Point is gorgeous, and one of my favorite places. I also recommend that people get out of Yosemite Valley, and take Tioga Road up the the high country. Along the way, stop at my other favorite place, Olmsted Point, for amazing views down Tenaya Canyon all the way down to Yosemite Valley, seen from above. Another terrific view.
