Last October, I finally broke down and purchased an HDTV (60inch Sony) and with DirecTV have been enjoying some awesome scenario of Hawaii since then. I have my DVR set to record anything Hawaii and with the HD channels the photography is just stunning. HDNet has some particularly incredible-looking programs. It certainly helps cure the winter chills to see some familiar sites from the Islands in such stunning quality. I highly recommend it for those still considering the purchase.

Now i have heard everything!

Ok, so I subscribed to napster so I could get my fill of Hawaiian music, I have a closet full of aloha shirts, I am glued to this forum way more than I should be, now I have to buy a HD tv!

I am just giving you a hard time because trust me, I understand where you are coming from. I am beginning to worry that this Hawaii things is a 24/7 obsession! We just got back from two weeks a couple months ago and I have already booked for this coming October. I know for many on this forum annual trips or more are no big deal but for me they are.

At first I had to convince my wife to book so early after just getting back. She felt like we were being extravegant going back in less than a year. I think this is because for much of our lives a trip to Hawaii was a once in a lifetime dream.

And I hope I never lose this feeling that a trip to the islands is something a little extra special, even after being able to go on an annual basis.

Thats is the #1 blessing with me and timesharing. Places that I never thought I would be able to go to, I own there now. Timesharing has opened up my world and educated me in history and other cultures more than I ever could have imagined. I hope its made me a better person, I know its made me a happier one.

Oh Oh!

Gary,

I just got back from the big island on Saturday - and I also was checking out resorts to go back to, just today. This is addicting!

Marsha :D

When we purchased our first Kona Coast II timeshare in July 1995, we expected to use it to get fabulous trades. Once we managed to get bonus weeks with SFX, we started taking vacations to Hawaii every 2 years or so from the east coast booking consecutive weeks. Since I always had trouble getting Kauai trades, I purchased a Pono Kai week on eBay a few years ago. Then I grabbed another PK week on eBay, then a Maui Schooner--and another Maui Schooner. Last spring I was the highest bidder on a 2br Kona Coast week on eBay and rationalized it was a retirement present to myself. Using our weeks, as well as deposited and bonus weeks with Trading Places, we enjoyed 5 weeks in Hawaii last summer and our son and his family came with us for 2 weeks (in their own units) to Pono Kai and Kona Coast. Next summer we are taking our daughter and her family to Kona, Maui and Kauai for 3 weeks (in our duplicate units) and DH and I will be staying 2 extra weeks at Wyndham Waikiki Walk and Shell Waikiki Marina (thanks again to Trading Places). In 2009, we already have Kona Coast scheduled in back-to-back weeks around the 4th of July. We decided to book our Maui Schooner and Pono Kai weeks in January 2009 so we can check out the whales. This will be the first time we take two trips to Hawaii in one year. After reading the posts on this thread, I just wanted you all to know that we are also out of control when it comes to Hawaii. We subscribe to Hawaii magazine and listen to brudda Iz all through the year. We use Delta, Continental and AA credit cards for anything and everything to accumulate air miles. Life is wonderful and timesharing is awesome! :cheer:

uh oh!

Seems like this may get worse instead of better! :D Hmmmm, now I need to find out how to subscribe to Hawaii magazine!

Seriously, I am surprised how much I love Hawaii. My wife always wanted to go and I was never very interested. Maybe because I am not a water person. This is not totally true as I love being by the water, I am just not crazy about being in it. Probably has everything do do with not knowing how to swim.

What finally got me to agree to a trip was when we were able to buy a bonus vacation to Hawaii with Fairfield when we made our first timeshare purchase at Cyprus Palms. We were offered a 5 night, 6 day vacation for a little over $600 for both of us. This included air from Albuquerque, a mid sized car rental, and 5 nights at the Outrigger Reef in Waikiki. How could I say no to that! And I must say it was the best, most romantic vacation we have ever had up to that point.

As a photographer I went nuts over the scenery and I really enjoyed learning about the Hawaiian culture and history. If I had unlimited funds I would love to visit many places all over the world, so we will still want to try and see new places from time to time. But there is just something very special about Hawaii, even for a non-water sport guy. I will go with my wife when she does her snorkeling and just enjoy the beach. For me it is the perfect combination of diverse scenery for photography, interesting culture and history, romantic places, relaxing places, and interesting places to visit. In our future visits we plan on a lot of hiking so I can even add going to Hawaii will be good for our health (we actually lost weight on our last trip while eating all we wanted). We have been under a lot of stress so needless to say it is medicine for a better mental health.

And I think I am preaching to the choir here!
