After spending a week at Marriott Desert Springs II (exchange after we messed up date on reservation of MDS I), we are at Westin Desert Willow this week. We were at the lobby for check in and I thought... that familiar smell. My husband and I realized for the first time that Westin uses a scent at lobby area that is consistent across all Westin resorts. Anyone else notices that that?

When I opened up the shampoo I thought it smelled similar (White Aloe Tea) but my husband thought it was similar but different.

Maybe it's their cleaning product.

Yes, they use the white aloe tea scent as a diffuser. I love the Westin scent and will use a soap or lotion every once in a while to remind me how lucky I am to have had such great experiences.

Thank you for the link. :p Using smell for branding is refreshing.

Google is your friend...

Looked up "Westin scent" and that's what came back in the top few hits, along with lots of other related things.

Amazon has 'Weston White Tea' diffuser. $169. Interesting.

You may want to turn "smell" to "scent." "Smell" has negative connotations. ;)

Done... although smell does not have negative connotations for me. When someone is cooking something that smells delicious, don't you say "It smells great!"? :)

Probably just me!

"Smell," used with the word "good," is positive, but used by itself, I expected it to be a complaint about a bad smell at the Westin.

It's the nature of the internet - without hearing someone speak, it's hard to know.

My daughter (probably back when she was 9 years old or so) said that when she smells the Westin smell (or scent, if you prefer), it means she's on vacation.

Off topic, but i think smell is meant to be the verb, not the noun, or else it has a negative connotation.

Example: What's that smell? Answer: Rotten Eggs. (Not a surprising question and an expected answer.)
What's that smell? Answer: Chocolate chip cookies. (Now that seems like a strangely worded question given the answer)

What's that scent? Vanilla Chai Latte body spray. (Not a surprising question and an expected answer)
What's that scent? The garbage dump (Strange use of the word scent here)

The implied verb in each is smell: What's that smell I am smelling? What's that scent I am smelling? you would not use scent in the verb context for a human. But perhaps for a dog. I.E. The beagle scented the fox.

Not just you…
also aroma is better usage

I also thought it was someone bringing up the wastewater treatment (sewage) plant north of WKORVN.

we love the scent so much...

We purchased their diffuser system from the Westin Store online. https://www.westinstore.com/productDetail.aspx?White-Tea-Scent-Diffuser

:whoopie:Now our home smells as fresh and clean as our favorite vacation spots. They have online sales every so often, so we waited for a deal. Works fantastic to mask wet dog and cat scents, according to friends that also purchased the system.

What is with the wastewater plant thing? Is there really such a thing? If not who started it and why has it gained such notoriety?

I've never smelled (or smelt, or scented) any such thing. Am I just insensitive?

The plant was there before any of the resorts were built. It is north of the resort, on the other side of the street.

It only seems to have a "scent," when they are "processing," and there is a storm or wind blowing towards the coast, which is not the prevailing wind direction.

This is what I consider the "Westin scent".

This is an odor, not a scent - perhaps it is the time of year we go (Sept), but while walking along the path going north (on way to Dukes) - the sewage odor generally starts at the north side of WKORVN (where the open field/drainage starts) and continues until beyond WKORVNN. I have found the odor to be more of the norm than the exception. Robin is not as sensitive to odors as I am (lucky her).
