Here is the deal that made me think about developer purchase.

145,000 star options at nanea $55100
Equity upgrade SVV $18320 resale purchase so $37625 after equity trade
0 cash out of pocket for 90 day
Plus 60,000 star points plus 4x90000 cents at $1875 each purchase within 2 years

Than to get to 4 star additional 74000 star options at nanea retro WKORV North OF $28120 plus 80,000 star points plus 4x90000 Cert T $1875 each

Total star option 395700

Explorer package 50,000 star points 7 nights in studio $2800

Comments? We are looking to stay 4 plus weeks on maui in retirement in 2 years and stay at the new resort if possible for half the time. Occupancy either 2017 or 2018 as the resort will be 1/2 open by August 2017 and complete in 2018 they claim the are at 150% of sales goal thus far Mf on 145000 was $2581. Fees are based on number of star options owned.

Why not purchase two WKORV ocean views off market for 19k each and stay your month in Maui that way.
As of today that will be about $4,600 in fees. That averages at $164/night.
Of course you don't get to buy or convert points but who cares as that is a bad deal anyway. And as it is a mandatory resort you can always use your 296k star options at other resorts.
That is what I have and that is my plan. And when we don't vacation we rent the units out which cover our maintenance fees and puts a few dollars in our pocket which lowere our cost of purchase.

One other thought too, before we will buy or look at anything we are waiting for the merger to go through. If you are hoping to get to 4 star you really have no idea whether SW points will get devalued or if elite status will be devalued. Things will change they always do in these case, just don't know good or bad.

Figure 18-24 months. Just an opinion.

I didn't think that WKORV was mandatory?

Both WKORV and WKORV-N are mandatory Nanea is not. So if going to Maui is your plan buy resale and save a ton of $$$

PS since Nanea is voluntary the resale value of Nanea will be a lot lower than WKORV ( the same as WPORV is a lot lower than WKORV) So you'll spend $50K on Nanea BUT only be able to sell it in 10 years for ~$10K BUT in ten years you'll likely be able to sell WKORV for about the same price you paid.

Thanks great input we already own on the north side Oceanfront so if I went resale again would need to stay with the north oceanfront to increase chances of not moving a lot. Great point on resale at new resort forgot about that plus at the sales meeting they stated that there will be new restrictions on resale at the new resort (I.e Voluntary I assume)

To me, this is the key issue before buying more. 4* is better than 3* but not worth the $s that are required to get there.

I concur. Even 5* is not that valuable considering the $ you have to shell out for it.

I agree fellow 5*. It gives some perks but the return is def not on par with the investment. Up to now, I can say I have enjoyed some pretty nice upgrades which I believe were provided because of the status and probably because I asked nicely.

I inquired about 5 star and my cash outlay would have been north of $100,000.

As part of the purchase incentive the buyer also has the option of buying up to 4 packages of 90,000 one time use starpoints (hotel reward points) for $1875 each. I believe there is a time limit of 2 or 4 years after TS purchase to purchase the additional points bundles.

The rule I have seen is that they must be purchased by the end of the following year.

It's actually by the end of your first USE YEAR. So if you buy an EOY today with first use in 2019, you have almost 3 years to exercise.

I didn't think about EOY VOI, I don't own any.

With the Annuals I have bought it has always been the end of the following year. But you are right, I got them with next year start ownership.

2 years later and here is the new offer:

buy Oceanfront WKORVNorth at $82,900
trade in SVV 18320 credit net Price $65,000 3 star with retro and new purchase
60,000 starpoints incentive plus 4x$1875 for 90,000

Pretty poor offer I thought did not peak my interest at all, suggested I take out a home equity loan....oh my....
Did not do it of course....

The new resort looks really nice but no lock offs kills it for me
