My in-laws are current owners at Harborside. They have fixed weeks and want to purchase another fixed week (thanksgiving) on the resale market. This is proving to be difficult to find. Iv mentioned buying a float re-sale but i don't actually know any information regarding how far in advance you can reserve. Are there any links to Harborside where i can get a better understanding of float weeks and learn more about harborside ownership in general. Thank you.

If they want fixed week they need to buy a Phase I unit (Buildings 1, 2, and 7). Check ins are Sunday, Friday, and Saturday respectively. The unit will be reserved automatically but they will need to confirm. They unit will not be fixed unless you purchase that type of ownership also.

Phase II is floating. In both cases, you need to get the Platinum Season. However, you need to realize that Thanksgiving occurs during week 46 in some years. That would be the Gold Plus season. Not sure about this, but you may be able to get Thanksgiving as an event week in Phase II.

Correct about making resie at 12 months in advanced. Incorrect about season. To expand on what I mentioned above, gold season ends in week 46 and Platinum includes week 47. Most years Thanksgiving falls in week 47 but some years it falls in week 46. For instance, in 2016 it falls in week 47 but it will fall in week 46 in 2017 for Friday and Saturday check ins. Sunday check in will still be a Platinum reservation.

I own a gold phase 2 week at Harborside. per the Starwood chart, platinum is week 1-17, 50-52 and gold is week 18-34, 47-49 and silver is week 35-46.
The problem I see in owning phase 2 is that by the time November comes and you can't book the thanksgiving week, there might not be any good weeks like the summer weeks left

In terms of platinum or gold, you both are talking about the same thing. At some point Starwood renamed the seasons.

Originally winter was marketed at Platinum (1-17 and 50-52)
Summer was Gold (18-34 and 47-49)
and fall was Silver (35-46)

at some point they started calling winter Platinum Plus,
summer Platinum and fall Gold. Staroptions were never changed. It was an upgrade in name only. When you purchase phase 2 you need to make sure the weeks which the season include not the name of the season.

Summer is more popular than Thanksgiving. I would still expect to go online at exactly 12 months to reserve Thanksgiving though if that's what you want.

Thanks for clarifying. I did not realize the post was using obsolete season names. In any case, my comment stands. Unless Thanksgiving is purchased as an event week, there is no garantee you will get it every year because it is not always the same week number.

thanks for the responses.

Just to clarify, if he wants thanksgiving every year, i should be looking for a float week (phase 2) in platinum season. This would allow him to book up to 12 months in advance?

Read the posts again. Guaranteeing Thanksgiving every year can only be done by owning one week in platinum and one in gold plus (current season designations). I explained the reasons above.

ok i understand. So if you for example have a float week in platinum season and thanksgiving falls in gold season that particular year, is there still the option of booking that week?

Theoretically yes. In practice, probably not.

During those years, I would imagine owner's of Gold Plus season units reserve Thanksgiving weeks before 8 months which is when you (and any other SVN exchanger) can reserve the unit. Obviously, if you are successful making the reservation, you would have left over points.
