I'm here and wanted to give an update. Right now first floor evacuated. Hundreds already left earlier on their own with all their stuff. Highways are now closed. Shelters are mostly full. Sirens have been going off for several hours. Pool, restaurant, and other public areas are prepped to minimize damage. Most people have filled bathtubs with water. Overall everyone seems to be very helpful and calm. Most recent local news make it seem as if this will be smaller than was expected earlier in the night.

Hope all there will be safe....I'm watching CNN here on the East Coast and they are dire in some of their predictions especially the Big Island.

:hi:

Last I read on Yahoo, they said that Hawaii "dodged a bullet." Crossing my fingers.

According to the local news, the damage on Maui is minimal. There are some roads that washed out near and in Lahaina. Luckily we can still get to the airport. There was also some minor structure damage. It looks like the Big Island got hit harder than Maui. The Westin has no visible damage but the already small beach is a little smaller; I'm not sure if this is permanent.

Thanks for the update and glad Hawaii is ok. Japan just had another 6.6, according to the news here, an aftershock.

BTW, we arrive in Maui, tomorrow!

I was the only person in the gym today. More than half the people I talk to this morning slept up in the hills in their cars. I also heard of some additional damage at Ma'alaea Harbor.
