Hey folks,
Looking to get my feet wet in the timeshare world, and have been focusing primarily on Starwood, mostly because of SPG history. But maybe I've been too myopic, and for the wrong reasons.

Any suggestions from folks on the board how Hilton compares with Starwood (Sheraton/Westin) and Marriott for a newbie just researching options. What considerations I should be keeping in mind.

thanks,

Vincent

Yes, there is a great thread about Starwood vs. Hilton in Starwood forum.
About Marriott, I would not touch it until their new point system settle down and know about the system better and for sure. Now Marriott resale prices are falling greatly and will fall more.

Here are some questions for you:

Where do you want to go most of the time? (Home resort)
What are your top 3 areas to trade into.?
How often do you want to trade?
How much money can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
How much can you afford to spend for a yearly maintenance fee that comes due right after Christmas?
Can you make firm reservations at 12 mos. out?
Do you need school holidays or can you travel off-season?

Here's an old thread "Ranking the Top 4 Hotel based Timeshare systems" - http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34031
NOTE: Keep in mind, this old thread existed before Marriott's new points program and Starwood's new exchange rules but it will help you think about the various options.

TIP: Take a look at the Sticky threads listed at the top of each forum for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and other helpful tips

Here are links regarding the recent changes for Marriott & Starwood:

Good Luck and Welcome to TUG :hi:
