At Frenchman's Cove next month for the first time.

Getting a car at the airport, good idea?
Or is there car rental at the Marriott?
Is parking a hassle everywhere?
Groceries nearby?
Other to-do suggestions?

Thanks

Congrats on a great destination!

Rent at the airport, there is one closer to the hotel, but you'd then have to pay exhobitant taxi fees to get there negating any savings. If you think you'd like to take the car ferry to St. John, be aware that Hertz does not allow it; others seem to be OK with it.

Parking is ridiculous in town, at Frenchman's Cove it's fine.

20 minute drive to Food Center is where we go for groceries, safest and cleanest we've found.

To do? Have fun! Soooo many beaches and islands to explore, charter a boat, snorkel everywhere, or sit by the pool.

www.vinow.com has some good stuff on it.

Enjoy.

Double check with your car rental agency to make sure you can take the car to St John. As Numismatist said Hertz doesn't allow it but Avis and Budget do as well as some independent companies.

On the Caribbean forum however there is a thread that reveals the the USVI motor vehicle bureau just passed an ordinance prohibiting inter-island use of car rentals. The Governor supposedly suspended this idiocy after an uproar but check to make sure what you are renting can go to St John.

As an aside, going to St. John with a car is a lot of fun. Parking at Trunk Bay can be difficult, but next beach up is Cinammon, and that's just as nice.

In town, St. John has more interesting shops than St. Thomas does. St. Thomas is more high end luxury (Rolex, etc.), St. John is more local crafts and such.
