You have to be a non-smoker for 1 year before most insurance companies will give you non-smoking rates.

I believe the nicotine will be out of his system by now. Marijuana (sp?) is out in 30 days. I was a smoker up until 7 weeks ago and took a blood test for life insurance purposes 1 1/2 yrs ago. At that time even though I smoked 1/2 to 3/4 a pack a day my nicotine levels where low as were my husbands. I believe at this point he will test neg. However if he goes back to smoking or the insurance company finds out it has been less than 1 year they will reduce your insurance to what a smoker would have received at that premium or not cover him at all on the basis of fraud. Tread carefully, a year is really not that far away.

My life insurance premium is do in May so this May I will not have a year smoke free. My choices are to change companies and get a non-smoking rate or wait to the following May. My rates still low since I was under 40 when I got the policy so I will wait and see what else I can get next year or I will keep the 10 yr term smokers policy I have.

Good Luck to both you and your husband. It's a hard habit to break, and even harder never to go back.

Pam
