Old Timey Car to Replace NYC Horse Carriages Shown - from Associated Press/ Auto/ FoxNews.com

"An electric car that proponents hope will replace horse-drawn carriages in New York City was presented Thursday at the New York International Auto Show, as critics expressed their distaste for the idea..."

Although the old timey car looks cool, it's not quite the same ambiance.

I'm not opposed to adding the old-timey electric cars for variety -- but I'm in the camp, "Horses need jobs, too!"

(I'm a horsewoman maintaining two off-track Standardbreds.)

The mayor is getting pushback by the horse-drawn carriage operators. The change would be significant for them. I wonder if there is room for a transitional period? A time when current horse operators could continue to operate, but allow no new ones, while replacing the carriages with the horseless variety as horses 'retire'.

Just a thought.....

Too many horses have died due to this out-dated business. Time to move forward with a more humane alternative. I like the cars. It's about time.

FWIW, I enjoyed Central Park by walking or taking a bicycle taxi around. The horse carriages just made me sad.

Mayor de Blasio Unveiling Bill To Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages - by Michael M. Grynbaum/ N.Y./Region/ International New York Times/ New York Times.com

"The administration of Mayor Bill de Blasio is poised to introduce legislation next week that would eliminate the New York City horse-drawn carriage industry, fulfilling a promise by the mayor to animal-rights activists who played an important role in securing his campaign victory last year..."

As many of you know, Firefox replaced Google as their Search Engine with Yahoo's Search Engine. I'm usually on Tug through Firefox. I knew there was a previous Tug thread on the Horse-Drawn Carriage Topic in NYC and did a search to try to find the thread (Yahoo Search Engine). I could not find the thread via Yahoo. So I went to Google.com and repeated the search - voila, Google found it and it was the first hit in their list. Yea Google!
