We had one of those wonderful-luck/nightmare experiences this week..but thankfully saved by the Wyndham Sedona staff.

We're on a two week trip to AZ with Wyndham stays at Sedona, Flagstaff, and Sedona again at the end of the trip - with Monument Valley and Grand Canyon in between.

We had three nights at the Canyon, which I thought might be too long, so I had been checking Sedona availability online periodically throughout the trip with no success. But then on Wednesday afternoon I called Wyndham in the hope they could help. After a short delay, my new best friend (Wyndham VC) announced she had gotten us a 2BR at Sedona, checking in Thurs and adding that to our Friday-Monday reservation!!! Got the confirmation number!

So on Thursday, we checked out a day early from Grand Canyon and drove to Sedona. Got to Wyndham...NO RESERVATION!! They had the original reservation for Friday checkin, but nothing for Thursday.

But wait, I have a confirmation...let me see if I've received the email yet? Yes, there it is, in black and white: Thursday checkin...at BISON RANCH! Arghhhh!

Fortunately, the Sedona front desk folks located one vacancy and saved us several hours of driving to a place we never intended, or wanted, to visit! It took them a while to get it done, and I think it was probably a unit that had been taken out of service for repairs to the stairs. But we were thrilled.

Close call!

Is that like my first visit to one resort and I showed up 24 hours early? Reservation was for the following night ... at 11PM and the front desk staff took pity on my stupidity. They found me a unit ... 7 night vacation ... I was trying to checkin a day early ...

Yes, it was a Wyndham resort ... and they did not know me. Nor was I a VIP back then.

Wyndham resorts have employees that really care. They are what can make a good resort great or can bring down a resort.

No Linda...although I am frequently goofy, it was not my mistake. The VC messed it up. At the suggestion of the front desk folks, I called back and got the erroneous reservation points put back in my account.

Agree. I don't think I've ever had a "bad" resort employee. I've had a few who were obviously new and needed help, but haven't had anyone yet who wasn't helpful.

Dealing with the resort staff, and then talking to the weasels is like night and day most of the time.

We drove from San Jose,Ca. area to Eagle Crest in Oregon when our kids were about 7 and 2. When we got there to check in they had nothing for us. We then realized we had read the confirmation wrong and were a day early. This was in the start of time sharing for us. We spent the night in a hotel but have never made that mistake again.
24 years since then of 4-5 weeks a year without repeating that error so we learned early. Good part is Oregon was really cheap on hotel rooms.

One of the weaknesses of the Wyndham member site is that we can't check our points use history. Seems like a pretty basic tool for owners to have, but we don't.

I had to do a "Feedback" to check the points. Got an amazingly fast reply, and the points from the erroneous reservation have been returned to my account and the points for the extra night at Sedona have been charged. So everything is correct as far as I can tell.

I have heard that resort staff would tell you the same thing if they could speak freely.

Jim, the Sedona staff are great.

This is for all the newbies and has worked well for me. Always call the resort and have them find your reservation and confirm your dates before every trip no matter how sure you are you have the Wyndham reservation email or any other confirmation.

This happened to me in South Fl, luckily they had a room that the manager cleaned at Night for my family to stay in before our cruise. Could have been a disaster.

I arrived a WEEK early to my fixed week 2BR unit at Quarter House in New Orleans. It was Week 47, normally Thanksgiving week at Quarter House and Thanksgiving week that year every place in the country except Quarter House. Having just driven 18 hours and faced with turning around and driving another 18 hours, I did what anyone would do. I PANICKED!!

Started calling other resorts in town where I own trying to salvage the week. But, Quarter House came through with a vacant 2BR LO and let us do an even exchange. Whew! Thank you, Quarter House and Sheneka Rasheed!
