Four wheel drive jeeps are good in some of the islands, but now sure about Barbados. Can someone give me their thoughts on wether to go the jeep route or a Corolla. Are their many opportunities to use the four wheel drive on this island? Thanks

You will be fine with a regular car. The roads are pretty good in Barbados as compared to other Caribbean islands.

As long as you stay on the main roads you will be fine with a regualr car. If you plan to venture in to the interior, away from the beach areas then I would suggest something more rugged. The roads are all paved, but when driving through the interior, the roads do leave something to be desired, at least they did when I was there in 2007. Remember the interior is very elevated, I wouldn't call it mountains, but very high elevation (1100 feet) and those roads can be more difficult.

Whenever I go to the islands I try to rent the most beat up piece of crap, that is mechanicaly reliable, that I can find. The last thing I want is some prestine new vehicle without a mark or scratch on it. Saves a lot of headaches when you return the car at the end of the week.
