Aloha, we are in Maui and the weather so far has been wonderful, everyone has said that the last several weeks have been bad.
While watching the world go by we saw some folks dragging pool chairs across the lawn of the north property to sit on the lawn. This does make a mess of the lawn. I had to ask the beach hut folks if something changed since they never allowed this in the past. Apparently they had to stop enforcing the no chair on the lawn rules because there is no rule in the HOA guidelines. My sense is this will cost us in the long run and people leave their stuff all over. It also just bugs me. So before I get my shorts in an uproar and bring this to the HOA, is this just me focusing on a pet peeve?
Thought I would share

No, it's not you. That's ridiculous that they won't stop it because it is not specifically spelled out in the HOA rules. It will tear up the lawn and take a lot more work to straighten up the pool area. Just say NO! If there is a desire for some chairs in the grass, get some specifically for that purpose, but don't drag them around!

Ugly and unnecessary. It doesn't have to be in the HOA rules in order to be a resort policy, does it?

Sounds like they may need to expand the lounge area...

I'm not sure how much damage it will do to the lawn? We've stayed at other resorts in Hawaii (Marriott's Kauai Beach Club and The St Regis in Kauai come to mind right away) where you can find chairs on the lawn, and the grounds are still beautiful. Also, the arts & crafts tents are out there every week, with loads of foot traffic, are sunbathers really that much more destructive? I don't know...

It looks like I'm in the minority here, but I can definitely understand guests desire to spread out from the paved area beside the pool and bar at WKORN. The lounge chairs are packed in so tight there, I find it very claustrophobic. The lawn seems a natural spillover area for guests wanting bar service and a beautiful view of the ocean. The way the buildings are angled, you lose most of the ocean view as you move back towards the river pool. I think a designated area on the lawn (that rotates to alleviate damage if need be) would be wonderful.

PamMo, ... Too many people. Too little pool space. Too little concrete apron for lounges. Too few lounges at WKORV and WKORV-N. Otherwise, Paradise! Salty

This must be a summer phenomenon since there's plenty of space when I visit in the winter, spring and fall.

I have to agree with you, Jarta. We love going to Maui, and the resort IS paradise! The last time we stayed in our OF unit, we were above the pool in Bldg 5. I was struck by how the concrete apron was packed from one end to the other with lounge chairs - sunbathers looked like sea lions on a very crowded rock. When someone started to move their chair to reorient towards the sun, it started a chain reaction of movement all around them. It really was funny to watch.

We like going to different beaches around the island, so spend very little time in the pools (except our little ones love the pirate pool). I'm just saying I understand the desire to sit out on the lawn, and don't think it is unreasonable to make accommodations for guests to do so. The resort and/or HOA could/should monitor the situation and set guidelines for minimizing damage to the lawn.

Ken555, we were there in October!
