Airfares to St. Kitts

We have secured a timeshare in St. Kitts next January. In looking at prices of airfare from LAX the price seems so much higher than flying into St. Thomas or most of the other Caribbean islands ..... coach is over $700/person. Is this a typical fare we would pay for that time of the year? We have enough F/F miles for one tickets that I would like to use but hate to book that too early if the price of the ticket we purchase may go down.

We've flown AA from Washington, DC to St. Kitts in January for the past 2 years and $560 per round trip ticket was the best fare I ever got with that airline. Last year it was $600 RT and I sucked it up and paid. With routes and number of seats reduced, I was afraid to wait too long for fear the most convenient flights would be booked. Tickets were purchased about 4 months out and I never saw the fares go lower. "Sale" fares seem to appear only for travel during the hurricane season.

Sometimes you can get a flight into an island with more air traffic at a sale price and then hop an interisland flight. When I was in St. Kitts, I flew into Sint Maarten on AA, then took Winair to St. Kitts and LIAT on to Antigua, where I picked up AA back home. LIAT at least used to offer several special fare categories which were useful for this sort of thing including the LD fare, and several air passes for unlimited flights for certain periods.

Thanks for the info - I'll do some searching on flying into another airline and taking a local flight to St. Kitts.

We're looking at trading into Marriott's St. Kitts Villas in May. Which airport in St. Kitts would be the best? Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis (SKB-Robert L. Bradshaw Intl.) or Newcastle, St. Kitts and Nevis (NEV-Vance W. Amory Intl.)
