2008 Trip Adviser's Destination Awards
http://cdn.tripadvisor.com/pdfs/tca/...Awards2008.pdf
This is a fun poll to peruse. It lists the top 100 destinations in the world as voted by readers in 2008 and the top 25 in the US, South America, Europe, Carribbean, etc. See where your favorite destination location ranked and see which top rated locations you have yet to visit that you might want to add to your future vacations wish list. I am sure there will be some choices that surprise because of their low (or high) rankings. Feel free to post what you agree with and what areas you feel the readers missed the mark. Hawaii has always seemed like the number one tropical Island Location in the world. I was surprised that in the top 100 that Phiilipsburg St Maarten was 3rd, Charlotte Amalie St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands was 6th, Cruz Bay St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands was 7th, Bridgetown Barbados was 8th, Hamilton Bermuda was 17th, Marigot St Maarten was 21st,Seven Mile Beach on the Caymen Islands was number 32, yet the first Hawaiian location to appear was Poipu Hawaii, United States which came in at 38th folowed by Oranjestad Aruba which ranked 47th. Lahaina came in at 56th, Wailea was number 71, Honolulu number 83, and Hana 91st out of 100 (no Hanalei?). My favorite Island destination has been Kauai for many years, Aruba is second, Maui is a close third, followed by Oahu, Cozumel, Bahamas, and last Jamaica (too dangerous crime wise). Some of my top pics don't even make the top 100. Either the readers missed the boat or I need to do St Maarten (which am in 2010), St Thomas, St Johns, Barbados, the Caymens, and a few others because it looks like I might not have visited my Favorite Island yet. So many places I have yet to see and so little vacation time each year. ![]()

Tombo,
Have been visiting SXM annually since 1984, and I sorta agree with the poll. Hope you enjoy your trip next year. It is a bit too built up for me these days. |

I assume that St Maarten is your favorite Island destination (or favorite destination period) since you go every year. If it was to become my favorite too I could live with that because anywhere in the caribbean is an easy flight for me to make (unlike Hawaii) and so something I could do every year. I might pick your brain as the time gets closer on must sees and must eats.
