This is my first stay at Barony, and second visit HHI. In general, staffs are kind and nice here. I stopped by Marriott Grande Ocean, and I felt that Barony is much nicer and newer (just my one-cent thought).

If anyone plans to visit Barony (or Hilton Head Island) soon, I strongly recommend to bring anti-mosquito medicine because my two girls were victims from mosquito bites, and I see many cases around here ( I met other people who had 20 bites and 27 bites and I have serveral bites too).

Because I am an owner of MGV, I ended up Jasmine building (two buildings in garden area; Jasmine and Gardenia). And I do not recommend Jasmine because there is no sun shine coming into the room during the day, so I had to turn on the light all the day. Because of no sun shine, we felt our room is too wet, and smelly.

Last, we smell bad in the room, specially, from dinner glass table. We thought this might be due to no sun shine in the room, so we had to buy de-odorized spray and sanitizing spray to neutralize the smell.

Other than above minor things, this is another great Marriott TS, Please let me know if you need any information from me about Barony.

Have a great summer to tuggers,
Lo,

We own a gold week O S at the Baroney. We use it every year for Labor Day week. I too feel the Baroney is great. I would have called the desk and told them about the smell. We have had alot of rain the past 3 weeks. When this happens, the bugs will be out. Are you taking any trips to see the sights?. Stay out og the pine straw. Chiggers like to hide in there. These are bugs that bite. Have a great time. It should be hot there.

I would call the front desk, too, while you're there, and ask them to have someone come in to check on the smell. It's true that Hilton Head has been "enjoying" a much wetter spring/summer season than usual this year, but still they can't do anything about possible problems in the unit unless you notify them.

Ugh, mosquitos. I don't know any failsafe product to keep them away, but maybe if you stick to loose long sleeves/pant legs in the early evenings you might be able to limit the bites? I know that if the rain ever stops up here (Boston area) we're going to be taken over by the mosquitos. Between the unending rain and the expected bugs, this summer is not looking good anywhere on the east coast!

About that gardenview section where the Jasmine and Gardenia buildings are - what are the open hours for the snack bar at your pool? We're typically there in the spring/fall when the hours are very limited.

Enjoy your vacation in spite of the inconveniences - Hilton Head is such a beautiful relaxing place.

Sorry to hear you have been rained out. Where we live on the Southern Coast, we have had great weather. It has been hot for the last 5 days. The tourists have been in and the traffic is starting to get bad. But that is how the summer is here. Beach, fishing or golf take your pick. Remember, in the South, in the afternoon, sometimes you will receive a rain shower for a little while. I would go to and outdoor and purchase a ThermaCell Mosquito Repellent unit. I have one and it works great.

When you have marshes and tidal flats, you're going to have mosquito's. It's just one of those facts of life.

We were in one of the buildings closer to the lobby (ocean view but you can't see the ocean). Because of the all the tree's, our room didn't get much sunlight either. That's sort of the theme I noticed about HHI. Lot's of tree's that provide a lot of shade.

We have one of the Mosquito Defender things but don't expect that it will make much of a dent in this year's upcoming invasion. I might be exaggerating when I say that it's been raining for eighty-three days in a row now :D but honestly, we've had less sunshine this spring than I can ever remember. We're not getting buckets of rain but it's just grey grey grey gloomy mist/light rain with temps not getting out of the 60's for days on end. It's seriously depressing!

This year for the first time the golf course out back has been sprayed for mosquito control. I wonder if they saw something in the almanac that warned them? Hopefully, it will make a difference but I don't know how that stuff works - will it still be effective if it was sprayed two months ago before all this grey mist descended?

Tomorrow's forecast is for warmer temps, at least, and there is a possibility that we'll see the sun late Saturday. <crossing fingers and toes>

Wonder if those OFF clip on things they've been advertising work. The mosquitoes are the only things happy with the East coast weather this year- although they are predicting that today will be nice.

Sue- have you been happy with the Mosquito Defender? I just ordered the AllClear Mosquito Mister which uses a botanical fine spray. Oh well, at least I bought it from Frontgate because it has a 90 day return policy so when it doesn't work I can return it and only be out the shipping...I don't sound too confident, do I? I think I'm my own personal mosquito magnet

I saw once at the Discovery Channel that mosquitos are attracted by smelling feet. They always bite my wife but not me. She hates the Discovery Channel now!!!:D

We're happy enough with it, yeah. You have to remember to change the little repellent cartridge on time for it to be effective, but it does do a pretty good job of keeping the mosquitos at bay at least in the pool area. Like I said, though, this year's invasion might be very difficult to contain. :(
