Moderator-please see if you think this would work as a Sticky on this forum for Hilton Head or Cape Cod ,Williamsburg resorts. Trying to think of major east coast destinations where this is feasible.

Need one on the Florida board too!

In other words leave your beach chairs, boogie boards or other things for a tugger who will be staying the week after you rather than leave items in the unit that you cannot take to the airport or fit in the car.

One has been created by Denise in the Hawaii forum.

This is not my idea but Zac495 aka Ellen. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

What a wonderful idea! I would do this in a heartbeat for HHI. Thanks.

I just had to leave 2 beach chairs in Myrtle Beach. Could not take them on the plane. I actually walked the beach and picked out a couple that I thought could use them - there were only a few people on the beach without chairs - they were thrilled!! I hate to just leave them in the room for the cleaning people.

I agree this is a great idea. We are always leaving things behind for others. It would be very nice to know a fellow Tugger was going to be able to use them.

Maybe there could be a thread dedicated to what people have and what people might need while vacationing in certain areas. It would certainly save money.

And also, many Tuggers actually live in vacation areas. It would be nice to know, for example, that someone coming to Massanutten could borrow golf clubs, chairs, grills, toys, movies, etc. from me because I actually live here.

Thanks,
Cindy

And that's a key idea...which I wouldn't want to volunteer anyone for. That is, to have a permanent place (storage locker, back of someone's business or garage) which tuggers could arrange to leave and pickup items left in the exchange pool so we're not trying to time handing off a collection of things to one or another. I don't know other places, but there are some resale offices (who I think advertise on Tug) in Maui, Orlando and other places who might be coaxed into providing this added value to tuggers. <g>

Otherwise if a member wants to be the repository...all the better but again I wouldn't want to presume people would want to volunteer for this. Ideally we'd have a storage room or locker near the airport of popular destinations with a combination lock which tuggers to access upon arrival. This space of course would need to be paid for, which then adds a cost to this. Still, I see the makings of a good idea here.

We did a chair swap for DVC Vero Beach for a few years. The resort stored the 2 sets of chairs/umbrellas.

This past season, the resort asked us not to keep adding people on, it was too hard for them to keep track of who got what when.

It worked out well, but VB is a small resort, but the swap starts in March and runs through October.

I think it would be hard to do it for an area, where are you going to store the stuff?

I was pondering this a while back. Two ideas I came up with were geocaching (leaving the stuff in a hidden spot and giving GPS directions). If you did that it would be fun to make the items left a surprise.

For chairs and stuff it would be interesting to see if you could use a bike lock to lock them to a tree or a pole on the beach. In theory it is only for one day at the most if you checkout and they checkin the same day or the next.

Arrrrrrrgggggg....a TUG secret treasure map!!! X marks the spot (along with GPS coordinates).
