I was looking at this ebay auction # 380134067519 for the Westin Kierland

It was for a one bedroom every year (I think it was the smaller unit even though the room size showed the larger size) so it would have been worth 37500 points per year. It ended at $865 plus $435 closing (no transfer fee)

My thought was if it was cheap enought I would purchase it and then hopefully be able to get the Atlantis during silver season (ever other year or maybe ever 3 years and hope for the last week in Aug. or late in Nov as possible) or maybe some years check out the SBP during the summer months. We are flexible on when we can travel and a one bedroom would work for us... would this have been the best way to do this or would I have had a better chance if I purchased a SDO and then waited for the bulk deposit and try to grab something there.

I was thinking if I was in SVN then I would have a better chance over if I just tried to trade into it.. what do you think?

Thanks
Susan

Usually, I think it's best to buy Platinum as then you get more SOs for your mf buck, and enough SOs to go anywhere, in any season. However, the cost for this unit is so low, I might make an exception in this case. I think you might have better luck getting Harborside through SVN rather than II. If you're satisfied with low season and a 1 bedroom unit then this unit wouldn't be a bad purchase. Also, I think if you later changed your mind or trades didn't work as you hoped, you should be able to sell this and get your money back.

I took a look at prior sales of 1 bd prem EY Gold units:

4/30/2008 1 bd prem EY Gold 3605
5/10/2008 1 bd prem EY Gold 3550
5/24/2008 1 bd prem EY Gold 2551
6/2/2008 1 bd prem EY Gold 4200
8/19/2008 1 bd prem EY Gold 4360
8/22/2008 1 bd prem EY Gold 3500
12/17/2008 1 bd prem EY Gold 2201
5/4/2009 1 bd prem EY Gold 2160
5/13/2009 1 bd prem EY Gold 2750

I think one reason this unit didn't sell for much is that Westin Kierland was not listed in the title. I think if it had, it might well have gone for quite a bit more.

As this particular deal only comes with 37K staroptions, I'm not sure it is a good buy for the SVN system. You could never exchange for a week in Hawaii, and you are very limited in your travel times for other exchanges. If you are interested in SVN, then wait for something with 81K staroptions - it will open up all of the resorts and give greater flexibility.

That is what I was thinking too.. I bid too low ($739) it was only at $5.50 when I put in my esnipe then had to leave for the day.. I wasn't sure if it was a good deal or not and it was so last min. that I thought I would bid low.. oh well..

Is this (sniping) common practice on ebay? I have lost a few auctions in the last minutes.

Yes a lot of people snipe at the last minute. You can either do it yourself or you can use a service like esnipe that will do it for you in the last 6-10 seconds.

I like esnipe since it is pretty cheap and I don't have to be home when the auction is going on plus it cuts down on me increasing my amount at the last minute. I just put the highest price I will pay and then if I win great if I don't then I will watch for another one later on.

I don't like to bid early because then the other people start to up their bid and before you know it the price is much higher then I would want to pay.
