Restaurant.com New York City choices
Has anyone purchased certificates from restaurant.com for New York City? If so which restaurants, and did you enjoy the meal?

I use restaurant.com frequently but hAven't found much in NYC where I work.
If you will be in midtown I have great Mexican and Thai restaurants. Both are reasonably priced. Pm or email of you want the info |

I just ordered two for the restaurants in the Crowne Plaza Manhattan where we'll be staying this fall. I don't know how good it is but $3.00 for a $25.00 cert. is worth a try.

It is certainly worth the attempt. My experience with the coupons and certificates is that the places are "pretty good" at best. These are places that have to advertise heavily to exist. The best eateries in the country are local places that need not advertise. NYC is loaded with such places. Sure, try a few places with the coupons. You don't have much to lose but also get info on the east coast board, or other sources, on the places the locals like to eat in NYC. Most of the places recommended will definitely NOT be uber expensive joints.

Be sure to ask/present cert before ordering as they can discontinue them on a whim. I like Novocentro, Degrezia, Rare and via Della Pace but they are all over the place!

Seppi's just down the block is a nice french bistro just down the block. We go there every visit to NYC.Their white chocoalate mousse is devine. AJ Maxwell's is excellent too. I would purchase the $100 certificate and share the Porterhouse which is mammoth and get their three sides to share.
We didn't care for Havanna Central but if you are Cuban food fans you may.

around 50th and 8th is a great Mexican restaurant called Mi Nidito
Mi Nidito Mexican, Vegetarian, Healthy 852 8th Ave New York, NY 10019 at 51st Street There is also a great Thai restaurant on 56th between 6th and 7th called Topaz. If you want the food delivered check out delivery.com they list all the restaurants that deliver to your location and have menus and prices and let you order from their website no fee. Mi Nidito is there but don't think Topaz is. In the Hells Kitchen section there is a Halo Berlin express (they deliver too) that has great German food. Enjoy. |

Food NY
I won the grand prize in a sweepstakes and am being put up at, I think, the Waldorf Astoria in December. It's been fifteen years since I've been to NY.
We want to eat at the Palm one night and would like to find a really good, somewhat reasonable, Northern Italian restaurant. I'm saving the Mexican suggestion. Any others? |

There is a Carmines which is a small chain that is very good family style. I think it's both northern and southern style.
5 Guys burgers are great too. Enjoy your trips. |

We've been to these places: mercury bar (several times) Waterstone Grill (several times, bottles of wine are half price on Tuesdays too) Walker's Good Restaurant Rocco Restaurant Philip Marie Telephone Bar and Grill We tend to buy only dinners. I look for restaurants in neighborhoods I think we want to explore or known places we want to repeat. |
