Resorts: Marriott Barony Beach & Marriott Harbour Point HHI Brewster Green Resort on Cape Cod
Labor Day weekend-where to go???

Empty nesters looking for someplace new to visit and driveable 2-4 hrs from Providence RI area for 2-3 nights. Different from our normal mini stay spots like Maine Seacoast or things we did as with our kids like Conway NH,Newport,RI,Boston,Cape Cod.Mystic CT. Not gamblers so Foxwoods is out.

Want enough variety not one to sit poolside all day but do love the beach and walking around cities. Been to Berkshires in MA,NYC,Lake George NY,OC NJ and MD and Cape May NJ. DC is too far as I would be on the road 9 hrs each way and holiday traffic can make that 13 hrs.

Any advice on these or other areas? Never been to Long Island or the Hudson Valley. Might be too far but what about Chesapeake Bay area of MD?

Thank You!

PCGirl54,

Things to do in the New York Hudson Valley Region - from Thingstodo.com

More Hudson Valley suggestions from http://travelhudsonvalley.org/ - they have maps and a breakdown of the 3 regions - Upper Hudson Valley, Middle Hudson Valley, and Lower Hudson Valley

Calendar of Events from www.visithudsonvalley.com

Here's a good site on navigating the Hudson Valley, including links to the lighthouses on the Hudson River and the Estates of the Hudson Valley (including Franklin D. Roosevelt's Hyde Park Estate and the Vanderbilt Estate).
see http://www.hudsonriver.com/

If you chose to go to Long Island - I think you'll be fighting more traffic and I would do it at a different time. Here's a link with a good overview of the North Shore of Long Island

Have a good trip whichever decision you make

Richard

As a side note, on July 25th, 2009 the Mount Washington Hotel & Resort will be celebrating the 65th Anniversary of the Bretton Woods International Monetary Conference (aka The Bretton Woods Conference) held there from July 1st to July 22nd, 1944. This was a gathering of 730 delegates from all 44 Allied nations to regulate the international monetary and financial order after the conclusion of World War II.

See this link for more information on the Bretton Woods Conference - from Wikipedia

We will be at the Barony that week. To far for you to drive. What about Hershey Penn. Amish Country. What about someplace in Vermont.
