airlines to New Zealand
What airlines fly LAX to Sydney and Auckland? I am hoping to use AX points, so it needs to be an airline which partners with AX.

Qantas has a non-stop from LAX - AKL (Auckland, NZ). Amex MR has an award for LAX-AKL on Qantas for 92k points, but that's a lot of points for that award, given that the economy airfare prices out fairly cheap. Singapore Airlines with a stopover in Singapore might be an option also. (But a much much longer one than the Qantas non-stop, and would probably take 2 separate awards, so that's probably not a good option). Or, you can transfer FF points to one of the Star Alliance airlines that participate in Amex MR (ANA, SQ - Singapore Airlines, Air Canada) , and then you might be able to book an award on Air New Zealand from LAX-AKL or LAX-SFO-AKL Complicated to figure out which is the best one to work with, but doable. You will need to do some research there. They all transfer at 1:1, but their award schedules might be different, and they may have peak/non-peak award pricing that differ, and then you have to find availability for a Star Alliance award on NZ, or any combination of Star Alliance member airlines via the program you choose. ANA has an online tool you can use to look at Star Alliance award availability for most *A member airlines. I always refer to this FAQ on FT to use it: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/bmi-d...sterclass.html You need to sign up for ANA's mileage program to use it. And also, you need to be aware that in some cases, just because ANA shows a flight as available for award booking, some airlines (typically United) employ something called Starnet blocking that might limit your access to those awards. But if ANA shows it as available, you can book it on ANA. Not sure about SQ or AC though. Fares are cheap now, you might consider other options (paid). If you have questions about booking Star Alliance awards through other airlines, you might want to do research in the *A Forum on FT, and then ask questions there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/star-alliance-413/ -David Last edited by Icarus : July 14, 2009 at 05:45 AM. |

Flying to New Zealand
Last year we flew to Auckland on Air Tahiti Nui with tickets I bought on Sky Auction.Overseas Departure from LAX. There was a two hour or so stopover at Tahiti which I actually found very welcome-chance to get my feet on the ground and walk freely. The plane was an immaculate Airbus A-340, and we had excellent in-flight meals.
