Is it possible to rent out a getaway purchased from II.
I used to work for II but dont remember if it was against the policy. I remember the getaways being pretty inexpensive and would assume a savvy member would be a few weeks and turn around and sell them for a profit.
I, myself plan to do this when I get my TS to help offset the yearly MF and membership dues, but wouldn't want to risk violating the policy

Of course you can't rent Getaways for a profit. You could lose your II membership.

I have allowed my friends to book Getaways by logging into my account and paying for the Getaway and guest certificate themselves, leaving me completely out of the loop, and II has never said a thing because my friend is paying completely, with my credit card never being involved in the transaction. Same with RCI.

To add to what Cindy said, II actively looks for the rentals of exchanges and getaways. Every Guest Certificate that II issues also contains a clause that rental is prohibited. II can and will cancel the exchange and suspend membership for violations.
Heck, they suspended my membership just on the suspicion of renting an exchange. I wasnt, but it was pretty clear they look for it.

The reason I ask is because, when I went on a tour at OLCC, we were told we had unlimited weeks with RCI at only$199 (which I know would be more) and the rep actually said we can 'sell it to our friends to help pay for our TS.' He showed us 2 examples of weeks purchased for $199 and sold for over $1200, and even said we have friends all over the world, sighting Ebay as one of the places to find 'friends' to sell these weeks to.
How can a company make these claims knowing its against an affiliates policy?

Did you miss the post

How can you tell a timeshare salesman is lying

:cheer:

His lips are moving

:deadhorse:

Everyone involved remotely with that presentation should be fired

Because it isnt in writing. Very few timeshare sales presentations actually present the truth. If they did, most resorts would never get sold.

Yes - but that wasn't an RCI employee telling you that, it was a timeshare salesman. Unfortunately, many will say whatever it takes to make a sale. Telling potential buyers that they can make money with rentals, is a common ploy.

At the top of the Exchanging Board there is a sticky about who allows renting and who doesn't along with links to info. about the consequences if you get caught.
