Greensprings was great

We haven't stayed at Powhatan but really enjoyed Greensprings which was very nice. It was pretty centrally located at easy to get around.

We own at both and alternate which we stay at. The kids like the Powhatan pools. I prefer Greensprings, particularly loving the large master bathroom with dual sinks and I think just a little more room everywhere else too. We host groups all the time in Wburg and it is just a bit easier to do at Greensprings. On the other hand, Greensprings is a couple miles further away from things then is Powhatan. In all fairness, both are great and we love both. Your decision is a tough one! Full disclosure - I'm writing this from the dining room table at Greensprings.

I've stayed at both and would stay at either again. I'd say try Greensprings this time if you've never stayed there. Greensprings is a little further away than Powhattan but not by much. Greenspring has a better floorplan, I think since the bedrooms are more separated. It's really a toss up.

We prefer Powhattan primarily because even if we don't get a ground level unit (which is almost a necessity), we don't have to worry about "all the steps" to the unit. Greensprings can be a 4th floor unit.

If you are going soon, I heard Powhatan is undergoing renovations and many of the amenities are closed. Call the resort before committing.

At Greensprings, the fourth floor is actually the third floor since floor one is below ground level. It is still a hike to the third floor.

We personally like the atmostphere at Powhatan. It has a lot of charm and is usually very quiet. We were there for the July 4th weekend this summer. There IS a lot of renovation going on right now. The building with the indoor pool and upstairs restaurant is closed for renovation. I don't know how far they are now, but it didn't look like the building would be ready anytime soon. The grounds were not as nice this summer as in previous years. Don't know if that's because they are concentrating on major construction right now.
There are two outdoor pools at Powhatan, right next to each other. One is for adults only - though on occasion a child will be there with family. The other pool gets very crowded and can be filled with kids and families playing. The adult pool are is often not used and very quiet and relaxing. If you go to the pools during the day, there is no shade and it can get quite hot.
I've visited Greensprings and it's nice, but still prefer Powhatan. It you're going to be out and about for most the time, I recommend saving the extra points and staying at Powhatan.

We were at Powhatan for 8/15 to 22.

Everything in the indoor pool building, except the indoor pool, is back open and in full operation. The roof is complete!

However, more renovations then were originally planned are being done again on the indoor pool. As of the 22nd, it was still closed and no one was sure how fast it would reopen. Not that we cared at all - we never go inside in the Summer!
