Hi guys, hope you can help. Going to Cancun for 2 weeks this month. I have a couple of questions if I can impose on some of you who have been before.
Firstly, we arrive quite late around midnight or 1 a.m. which service would you recommend we book to meet us and take us to our resort (royal mayan).
Second, should we take U.S. dollars or Mexican currency (never been to Mexico before).
Any trips you could recommend for myself and the family would be great we have 2 little ones (6 and 4) so something like the wet and wild seems good (anyone been?)

Thanks again I really appreciate any help.

1. Check cancunvalet.com, Cancun Transfers, entertainment-plus.net, or Thomas More (royalresorts.com, down 2/3 of the way on the left for transportation). All services are similar, all very good. The first two (or three?) will provide a private van which can end up less expensive than Th. More's shared service depending on the number of people.

2. We only take dollars. Almost everyplace accepts dollars, so we only change into Pesos at the front desk every few days. Money is not used at the Royals; everything goes on your villa card and you pay by credit card at the end. The exchange rates at the resorts are good.

3. We've been to Wet and Wild several times. First, I'm always a bit nervous about bacteria at places like that.....I haven't seen any particular reason for concern, but I'm not too crazy about it. Other than that worry, it's a lot of fun. Some of the activities may be too wild for 2 and 4 year olds. You might want to check if they have a website to see what's available for the little ones. Also, they are all-inclusive, and I don't know about discounts for small children.

XCaret, XelHa, Chichen Itza and Tulum are the typical destinations, but all will be a long day (Tulum can be done in a half day) and you will almost certainly have hot cranky tired children.

I'd take them to the RainForest Cafe right in Cancun, maybe a 15-20 minute bus or cab ride from the Mayan, and maybe also to Chocolate City, similarly close. La Isla Mall has dolphins - not sure of the cost, but again, it's close. Other than that, I'd stay at the Tri-Royals - the kiddie pool at the Mayan is nice, but the one at the Royal Caribbean will probably have more kids. A good trip for a half-day would the the original Royal, Club Internacional de Cancun (AKA CIC), which has a beachfront restaurant and a quiet beach with very flat calm shallow water - great for little kids.

I agree with the above recommendations. I use entertainment-plus for my transfer service. Just deal with dollars and exchange to pesos as needed with the resort front desk. They have a good exchange rate. The Royal resorts have a good kids club based at the Carribean pool area.

When shopping, I carry both pesos and dollars. Some of the stores give a better exchange rate than they do at the Royal Resorts, so I will use dollars there to make my purchase. If you take the bus, use pesos and count your change. The bus drivers seem to have difficulty with math, always in their favor. :)

Make sure you take the kids to the Pinata Party on Sunday (Royal Islander Deck).

Also you might want to take them to Croco Cun Zoo (http://www.crococunzoo.com/) it is a great little petting zoo that is great for the whole family. We are in our 40's and do not have kids and just love it there! My neices and nephews (age range from 3-25) also love it there. -- If you go make sure you you buys bananas/fruit when you go in so you can feed the monkeys.

That's fantastic thanks guys. I hadn't heard about the zoo but will be sure to take a look. Thanks again.
