Just reserved 4 nights in a 2 bedroom for Thanksgiving week. Last year we stayed in a one bedroom with a gorgeous view of a roof  This year I am hoping to be better informed and was wondering if any of the 2 bedroom units actually face the riverwalk or a least have a better view. Also, do these units sleep 8 people comfortably? We are 4 in my family, but thought I might invite some family members to join us.

Thanks:wave:

You will have to call the resort. Some units sleep 8 some only sleep 6. It depends on whether or not you get a room with 2 double beds in the second bedroom or just a 1 king bed. There is also a queen sleeper sofa. Call them and ask for the 8 configuration.

At least you got a view of the roof and not the side of that building which is worse.

Stick to an even numbered unit, at least you will have a view of the drive in circle, entry way. If you want a view of downtown-ish ask for a unit ending in X11 or X13. Problem is that there is only 5 floors on this end of the building, so there is not many rooms to choose from. I do not even know if 11 or 13 is a 2 BR unit. Sorry.

You won't get a full on river view or a pool view as those are all presidential units and not the standard units.

Thank you for your suggestions, I will contact resort close to the reservation date.

another ?

To those of you who have stayed at both la cascada and riverside suites.. which would you rather stay at?
I know la cascada is the newer property, but just want to know if there is a huge difference in amenities. I also noticed it's alot less points then la cascada.

It looks as though we could have a private conversation as I am the one who has answered all your Qs.

I have stayed at both.

Riverside Suites is in a 1928 Building. It has concrete floors and exposed concrete beams. There are large windows in some of the bathrooms. It has no amenities at all. It is all about location, as it is right on the riverwalk, there is a outside small lounge area on the 3rd or 4th floor rooftop. The actual building is like a C shaped and the lounge is in the middle of the C. Landry's is in the bottom floors of the building, so if you locate landry's on a map then you know exactly where riverside suites is. Rooms are mostly funky shaped, and on the smaller side. It is noisy here, especially is you get a room that is next door to the disco/bar, Polly Esters. The front desk hands out ear plugs it is so loud.

La Cascada is specifically built for timesharing and is just about 2 -3 years old at the most. Rooms are large and nicely decorated. There is a lobby area with pool table and big screen TV lounge, fitness center, the outdoor lounge, pools (kiddie and normal) and a hot tub on the roof, and there is a deli on the first floor.

So it depends on what you are interested in. La Cacada is a lot more points, but you get a larger, very nicely furnished unit. The presidentials are awesome. I have stayed in a 2 BR Deluxe, a 2 BR Presidential, 3 BR Presidential and a 4 BR Presidential.

Riverside Suites is nice if you can get a plus unit with a private balcony and hot tub on the roof. But some of the units are configured strangely. The resort as a whole is in need of some repairs here and there. I have stayed in a 1 BR Plus unit with a circular staircase to the bedroom. That staircase is small and hard to get up with luggage in hand. All the plus units are 2 story units. I have stayed in a 1 BR, a 1 BR plus and a 2 BR plus before.

If I had my choice I would pick La Cascada, but if points are an issue than Riverside Suites with work. Riverside Suites is on the River with a restaurant below it. I prefer higher floors as there are cockroaches vacationing all over the river walk area. So Riverwalk + Restaurant means they are likely nearby.

Have a great time in San Antonio during Thanksgiving. I hope the weather is good for you. You might consider a trip to the Texas Hill Country while you are there. The drive is quick. Bandera, Fredricksburg, Marble Falls, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Wimberley, and Gruene are great destinations. You might even be able to visit Sandy in Austin. I am certain she knows more about the Hill Country than I.

I like walking around historic Gruene (pronounced Green). They have a few places that play music. Austin is also great for the music scene. There are so many places that have bands playing over the weekend. Hundreds of places, too many to mention.

There are a great number of day trips out from SA.

Hi,
Although I own at Las Cascadas I have yet to stay there but did stay at the Riverside location and loved it. It doesn't have parking onsite but is down the block but my unit was lovely. I had a 2 bedroom that did not have a balcony but had a great view of the Riverwalk. Unfortunately I don't remember the room number. The room is an odd shape but was very functional. Definetely a downtowny loft feel to it with the concrete stained floors and efficient kitchen. It was very convenient to walk to Landrys and other areas of the Riverwalk. We were at a Dermatology convention and it was a short walk to the convention center and other tourist points. The La Cascada seemed further away from all the action. Hopefully one day soon I'll return at stay at my home resort but I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Riverside again if I couldn't get La Cascada. :)

Hopefully will hav enough time...

We travel to Austin and San Antonio quite often because they are 4-5 hour drives for us. We are familiar with San Marcos, but not the other towns. Weather is great for us Texans, not too cold.. last year at Thanksgiving we were in the 60s I believe. After staying in San Antonio, will visit my bestfriend in Austin.

Again, I do appreciate it immensely when other TUG members take the time to post and share their travel experiences with me.
