Thinking of selling Marriott TS...does this affect II?

Hypothetically...if we were to sell our Aruba Surf Club gold this year how would that affect banked weeks at II? I do not have any exchanges reserved but do have four weeks deposited (one is an AC)? Would I retain all those banked weeks with II? I also have one studio week for 2010 that is reserved but not with II (trying to rent out privately)...I assume I would keep that too? Question is can you belong to II but no longer own a Marriott TS?

I guess since I already "used" my 2010 weeks, usage and maintenance fees for new owner would begin in 2011? So I would pay MF in January of 2010 or would the new owner??

Sorry for all the questions...its confusing!

Thanks.

You retain all the banked weeks. II wont know you sold your timeshare unless you tell them. You can also remain a member of II for the purpose of using Getaways etc providing you dont advise them you sold it.

Typically when a timeshare is sold whoever has usage in a particular year pays the maintenance fees for that year.

Your deposits would remain with II and available for exchange.

Technically if you don't own a timeshare that trades in II you can't belong. However, there doesn't seem to be any cross referencing.

You would pay the 2010 MF's since you are using the unit.

You will have a hard time selling now without 2010 use. If you haven't deposited the week yet, I'd recommend rethinking your options if you intend to sell, because the fact that redweek4less on Ebay had 3 recent SC Gold units (when there were only 3 or 4 the entire last year) hasn't helped the market any. It appears to me that Marriotts in general are priced way lower than even over the winter.

If you really want to use your 2010 weeks and don't need the cash now, I'd hold off for now.

That's a good point. Who would want to purchase this NOW and not be able to use until 2011? I can certainly wait until next spring or so to put this on the market.

Although we have done fine with TSing in general we have not been back to Aruba since we bought it. We have so many weeks deposited and take too many vacations as it is so I thought that selling might be a good idea. We don't need the cash right away though.

I have seen people sell a week and transfer a week that was deopsited with II. I would guess that would lower the value to a buyer vs usage at the resort. That way the buyer would get the "use" of the 2010 week and pay the maint fees.
