We plan on going to Palm desert nest year. Which would be best : Marriott Shadow Ridge or Westin Mission Hill ? What are the most upscale areas in palm desert ? Any suggestion ? We do not golf but enjoy golf settings ! , upscale shopping and gourmet food and ... spas !

Thanks:)

Be sure you check the TUG Reviews for these 2 properties.

Hard to go wrong.

You should also consider Marriott Desert Springs Villas. Both Villas I and Villas II.

Both are on the golf courses. Villas II has better golf course orientation.

The JW Marriott Resort & Spa shares the grounds. The Spa at Desert Springs is wonderful. If you occupy Villas I day use at the Spa is complimentary.

El Paseo is the upscale shopping district in Palm Desert. Many art and sculpture galleries also. Some shops close July through mid-September

Great dining is plentiful.

My favorites: Omri, Shame on the Moon, and for pure experience, Wally's Desert Turtle (closed June through September).

I prefer WMH for the same reason I prefer Starwood - very often, the "lock-off" is still a suite. Yes, smaller bed and bath, but there IS a small living room.

fredm: what towns are your recommended restaurants? Palm Desert? Rancho Mirage?

Omri is in Palm Desert. HWY 111 between Lupine Ln and San Luis.
Incredible Mediterranean. Omri owns and cooks.

Shame on the Moon . Rancho Mirage . Frank Sinatra Dr., just off HWY 111.

Wally's Desert Turtle. Rancho Mirage. Hwy 111, just east of Bob Hope Dr

Reservations are a must. Expensive. Opens this Friday for the season.

Thanks, Fred! We'll be at WMH for New Years and these suggestions are in the folder! (Anyone else going to be there then?)

I prefer WMH to MSR too. I own and both and have been to both. WMH has a spectacular hotel attached to the timeshare that is host to many conferences and special events. Beautiful spa, pool area, golf, etc are all on site. If you are looking for a "classier" resort, WMH is probably a small step above MSR. But not a huge leap.
