Is this a common problem, yet another II "glitch", or are we missing something?

We had a pending II search for a Ka'anapali property; we had requested week 6, 2010, for any sized unit at Westin or Marriott. We used an 2 bd. SBP unit for this ongoing search. That should have given us more than sufficient trading power plus the three day preference for any WKORV/N unit.

At 4:00 am today, my insomniac DW was playing around on the II website, and lo and behold, saw a WKORVN studio for week 6, 2010. She checked our "My History" on the II website and saw that our pending request had not been filled. She used the week earmarked for the pending request and snagged the exchange.

First, a reality check -- shouldn't the exchange have happened automatically? Second, is this a common problem with II?

I have heard of this happening several times. I am not very impressed with II's website. It is very "glitchy" and not at all user-friendly. I am a computer programmer myself, and I see all kinds of things that they should improve upon. For the price we pay for membership, it should be a high-quality application. In my job, if I were to develop a weak system like II's, and hand it over as a finished product, I would be fired. Period.

I would bet that this happened during the roll-over to the new II/Starwood rules.

Even though you requested any size unit, there may have been filters in place that wouldn't allow an automatic exchange to take place going from a two bedroom down to a studio unit. While you'd be happy with that exchange I'm sure there are a number of people who would have complained, even though they said they'd accept it.

No system is perfect. This might have been a case where the note was in the file and to go down that far in size might have required a manual over ride.

I agree completely. I've managed a number of web projects over the years, and none of ours has the intermittent (yet consistent) problems like those in the timeshare industry.

Of course, at least II has a website. Those of us Starwood owners are still waiting for Starwood to give us any kind of access for online reservations. Frankly, I'm not sure it'll ever happen.
