A quit claim only works if the company AGREES to take back you timeshare. If they don't want it, they don't have to take it. In this economy, most resorts would rather have a dues-paying owner on the hook, than get back a TS that they have to pay the MF on and try to sell in a weak market.
Another option is giving away your TS and offering to pay the transfer cost - you can get a basic professional transfer for about $100. There are a couple places on TUG where you can post a free TS - one in the TUG Marketplace, and one at the top of the Buying, Selling, Renting forum.
