good restaurants in San Jose del Cabo

El Chillar and Damianas were the best 2 we visited. Voila, El Comal were good. Jazmines was good for breakfast and dinner and the cheapest of the ones mentioned. Tropicanas is another to consider.

There are several nice restaurants within walking distance of the Grand Mayan. The taxi fare around the San Jose area was $5 USD, but the bus was cheaper. We generally walked.

Habanero’s had good food, but service was lousy the night we were there. The little restaurant just before Habanero’s – Mi EnSalada[B/] was good and very reasonable, Local Eight and El Herrero were good too. We did not eat at Vazquez or La Dolce, but heard good things from others about them. The Baja Brewing Company had great root beer and hamburgers and kabobs. The Argentinean Steak Place was so-so. There is a place in the San Jose Marina called Tommy’s Barefoot that is pretty good and the prices were reasonable enough to justify the $12 taxi fare each way. We mostly ate in the San Jose Historic area and explored the restaurants there.

Overall, food in Cabo San Jose was much less expensive than in Cabo San Lucas.

If you like massages - there are two places on the beach near the Crowne Plaza that do 1 hour massages for $30 US). The one with the pink curtains is better than the one with the white curtains. These were great!!!

We have eaten a few times at the Tropicana Inn. Our most recent experience was in August in the upstairs dining area with a party of nine and it was great. Click through all the pictures on that website to see it.

San Jose

Haven't been in 6 months but Apolstolis was very good when we went in May.

both locations of Morgan's are good as is Local8

Morgans

I heard that they are pretty expensive and the food was just so so. At least that is what a lady told us in October when we were in Cabo.

There are 2 Morgans one is less expensive.

We've had great meals in both over the years.

We live in SJD at least six months a year. I am looking out my front terrace at the Grand Mayan as I type this. There are many good restaurants here including those already mentioned. Most of those mentioned are fairly pricey. I will add a couple of more to that list and also several more less expensive ones. I would add Cinthia's to the medium price list. Open for lunch and dinner. The stuffed chicken breast on the dinner menu is to die for. Mostly organic produce. Located inside a large gallery just south of the Mega. From McDonalds, walk south about one block. Last building on your left.
If you want cheaper fare (we who live here do try to save money on occasion), you might try these:
For lunch--Taqueria Rossi or Los Michacanos. Both are near the 4 lane/Pescador intersection. You can walk there from the Hotel Zone but a cab will get you there for $5.00. Taqueria Rossi for fish tacos and carne asada tacos, tortas, etc. Los Michacanos is some of the best roast pork you will ever taste. Order a half or full kilo and take anything left over back to your hotel. Lunch for four will come to about $20.00.
For dinner--Guacamayas (means Macaws) for tacos and papas (Mexican baked potatoes); Hangman's for carne asada tacos. Both are located in the same general area as the the two lunch places mentioned above. Take a cab after dark, not because its dangerous but you will probably have trouble finding them the first time. Dinner per person will probably come to less than $10.00.

Update

A quick update on an old thread - but thought it worth mentioning as this is linked through the Cabo information stickey.

Alas, both El Chilar and Local Eight now have "Se Renta" signs in the windows. We're at Grand Mayan right now.

We've had both a lunch and breakfast at Herraderos, a block off Mijares behind the Bombero's. Food was good, moderate prices. Habaneros was excellent and moderate price. Also, a lunch on the beach at Zipper's (maybe 2 miles out of town?) - huge burgers were pretty good, great greasy atmosphere.

a good taco joint is Gordo Lele. Absolutly fabulous and he is very entertaining and very very cheap. 2-3 tacos and beer for less than $4.00 enjoy...just ask where it is at and anyone will point you in the right direction. I recommend it and so does tripadvisor.

Gordo Lele is a fun place, but just to be clear, since the title of this thread is about San Jose restaurants, Gordo Lele is in Cabo not San Jose.

We were in San Jose del Cabo in February and liked: Baja Blue near the Mega; toward town, Habanero's, El Herradero, and Mi Tierra.
