We're planning a 3 day weekend in NYC in October with our 3 teens. I noticed some of the Manhattan Club rental ads on TUG say "sleeps 5" or "sleeps 6". Is that a mistake? I thought all Manhattan Club rooms had a maximum occupancy of 4 people.
I don't see how 6 people could be comfortable in one unit at MC. There are only two types of rooms: a studio with one bathroom or a one-bedroom with two bathrooms. There is either a queen size or king size bed and a sleep sofa. They have twin-sized rollaway beds that can be brought in.
I hope you can get a unit with two bathrooms when you stay with three teenagers. Hopefully, all are in the same family. If you don't plan to spend much time in the unit, you may be okay. Two teens can sleep on the sofabed & get a rollaway for the other one.
My husband and I are at the MC right now in a studio w/one bathroom. It is fine for just the two of us. It wouldn't be good if there were another couple with us. The closet is tiny and barely holds all our hanging clothes.
You should contact the people who are running the ad and ask about occupancy numbers.
I rented a summer studio for me and my husband, but I also looked at rates for October when i have a trade for me, DH and the kids. I noticed that for rentals directly through MC, the website says the following under Terms and Conditions:
Deposit PolicyAll Reservations Require Credit Card to charge immediately upon creating reservation.Cancellation PolicyThis offer is non refundable should you wish to change your date we require at a 24 hour notice.Check In Time 4:00 pm Check Out Time 11:00 Rates are subject to change Children under 17 years of age $10 extra with an accompanied adult. Extra Adult at extra cost of $20 Extra Child at extra cost of $10 Adult Rollaway at extra cost of $25 Child Rollaway at extra cost of $25 Crib is free of charge No pets allowed smoke free property Valet discount parking available, $28 per 24 hour period All offers are non refundable
From this I am assuming that it is possible and legal to put an extra person in the room for a fee for renters. Whether that applies to RCI or Redweek exchanges is, perhaps, a different story!

We stayed at the MC for a week last June in one bedroom unit. For two days we had three adult guests. They stayed in the living room on the sleep sofa and one rollaway bed which the MC provided. I thought it worked out quite well, although that might be easy for me to say, since my wife and I had the bedroom. The two bathrooms made it more convenient. I would not hesitate to do the same thing again.
We've stayed in the 1BR2BA unit with 5 or 6....and while it was tight for sleeping (w/ sofa bed and cot), having the 2nd bathroom made it less complicated. WE weren't in the room for too long, other than to sleep, and the master bedroom was large w/ TV and desk area, so we could separate and have our own "space" if we wanted. I've done this arrangement twice, once w/ my husband and 3 kids, and more recently, w/ my brother, his wife, and 3 kids between us.
We also have gone with another couple. The sofa bed was horrific-- two people would have to be dead drunk to be able to fall asleep on the one we had. It was brutal.
A tip I picked up here re sofa beds is to remove the mattress and place it on the floor. They may get a better night sleep without the discomfort of the sofa bed's springs.
I suggested this to a couple using the sofa bed in our unit awhile back in SF. They said this tip helped them immensely.

Just curious if RCI exchangers are charged for a sofabed. I guess $25 for the week would not be too bad, but if it's $25/night on top of the additional fees the Manhattan Club tacks on JUST for the RCI guests - yikes.
What are RCI exchangers being charged for the rollaway beds?
