We just returned from our annual week 16 in St. John and the villa renovations look really nice. I was pleasantly surprised at the nice job they did with the new kitchens and bathrooms. All of the new furnishings look really good too! They even freshened up the pool area within the courtyard of the three bedroom pool units with a nice coat of paint. They were replacing some of the landscaping just outside our villa while we were there which just added to the whole look. In my opinion, the assessment was worth getting a brand new unit.

Another really pleasant surprise was the staff; everyone we had any encounter with was really friendly and very helpful. Whenever we called "Service Express", for something we needed, the response was immediate. We spent most of our vacation at the wonderful beaches on St. John, however we had a few late afternoons when we were able to get our grandkids in a Westin activity. They really liked, feeding the iguana's and tie dying tee shirts. The staff at these activities were both patient and helpful.
The Management at the Westin should be commended - the improvements are noticeable and appreciated. If anyone has the email address for Greg Gray, I would like to send him a note expressing my appreciation.

Everything about St. John went very smooth this vacation, including the car ferry rides to and from St. Thomas. Our normal routine is to rent a car at the airport, do our grocery shopping on St. Thomas ($714 this year) then take the car ferry to St. John. The fee is $25 -$27 per car depending on which ferry you take. We have a nice breakfast each morning, pack a cooler full of drinks, sandwiches, drinks, snacks and more drinks. Then we head to one of the many beautiful beaches by 10:00 am. We swim, snorkel, read, sleep, eat and drink until late afternoon, then head back to the villa. The kids, jump in the pool, the guys kick back with yet another drink and the women start taking showers. We fire up the grill, make a salad and enjoy our evening at the villa. The only time we ate out this trip was lunch at Skinny Legs.

If you can get yourself into the island spirit while you are there, you will come away with a real appreciation of this beautiful island. My whole family truly loves St. John, and now we have a nice new villa to stay in while we are there each year. I hope you all have a chance to experience the spirit of St. John someday. Pam

Thanks for the report - we are looking forward to our upcoming visit in about 5 weeks (yikes).
Outside of O'Connor rentals (which are not WSJ employees) - we have never encountered anything but good service and nice employees - even our villa bee experience was handled well.

Speaking of bees - I am curious if the sidings and roof were replaced (or going to be) since that was suppose to be (verbally) part of our 50% special assessment.

btw- in our quest to change the BOD - are we are looking for (at this stage) is replacing the current 'owner' representatives (in the hope of improved transparency and communication - and then eventually the 3 SVO employees.

DavidnRobin please be sure to take pictures - we are in blding 34 and would like to see what the hillside renovations look like!:cheer:

Somewhat agree with OCSun

We're here now and I think the villas do look much improved (we're in 4210). However, the appliances they put in are not as high quality as the ones in our 4310; they look more like entry level apartment appliances. I expected more, at least the equivalent level of our other unit. The carpet is highly worn and stained and I think it's only 3 or 4 years old.

I did the owner's update on Monday and spoke with Greg Gray. He informed me that the roofs were going to be done in the fall of 2011 and that the pools are going to be resurfaced at the same time. Our pool really needs resurfacing alot sooner than that. It has places on the steps that are rusting and gouged out. I asked that someone look at the pool and determine if it can be done sooner.

I also received a copy of the full audit report for the association for 2008. No real immediate surprises, but it is a few years old.

Will do - I posted pics from the last 4 years

We love your trip reports. Even though I've never been to St. John, it feels like I had a visit through your extensive reports. Will be making my first visit to St. John next year (staying at Marriott Frenchman's Cove since it seems too difficult to get in WSJ).

Nice appliances too much to ask?

However, the appliances they put in are not as high quality as the ones in our 4310; they look more like entry level apartment appliances.

Remember, we only got the basic $150,000 renovation package on our 3BR Pool Villas!!

Thanks - it seems that many travel along with us vicariously (scary...). Get over to STJ from STT - not far and not expensive - the north shore beaches are worth it.
