Just in the looking stages now...but in looking at some RCI weeks places, there are some that are listed as all inclusive (a few were listed as mandatory...I was looking in Mexico, but am not anywhere near deciding where to go...so any suggestions are welcome)..

One place quoted $4000 for the week...and that was for a 2 BR!. Another quoted $60 to $100/day per adult (about half that for a kid)...that sounded a bit more reasonable.

So, to edumacated myself.....

How does a place charge $4000 for 4 adults (OK, I guess it could be 6 adults in the 2 BR)...and then quote $400+ for a child charge as an all inclusive?

So, now I'm looking for all inclusive ideas (areas to travel, how much in general, and the best deals)?

And to those who have used this kind of a resort...if it's a daily fee, did you pay for every day, or just part of the trip so you could go out and find other things?

Thanks!!

As a general rule, it does not pay to buy an all inclusive timeshare. You can get deals for the same rate without the expense of a timeshare exchange at the same or similar resorts and locations.

Also, they usually have low trade value because exchangers don't want to pay the all inclusive fees -- they can stay elsewhere and eat for a lot less.

Many resorts, especially those in Mexico make it mandatory that you pay the fee per person per week for the entire stay. When exchanging into these resorts you will be made aware of the policy before you confirm.

Other resorts will offer an all inclusive option payable when you check in. At one of my resorts in Antigua, you can choose the AI option for as few as three days per week but all persons in the unit must pay for the option for howver many days it is taken for.

AI is especially cost effective if drinking expensive cocktails. If not drinking much alcohol, or none at all, the AI option is not as cost effective. :)

Thanks for the info. Good to know....maybe I'll train myself back to my College Alcohol Capacity before I go to one of them (now a beer or two gives me a buzz).

How was the food? I was considering going with the family 2 Adults, 2 young Teen girls...so it may actually save a little bit on food (at least at some of the places I saw on RCI....maybe not the $4000 places!).

AI's can be more than food and drink

You really need to look around at different AI's both at TS resorts and non TS resorts. AI's can vary between having only 1-2 restaurants that serve the same kind of buffets 3 times a day to one's with 8-10 restaurants serving a la carte. But often you can get better deals at AI TS without trading in your unit or going through RCI through Apple Vacations, expedia, orbitz, or others and you won't have to stay 7 days if you don't want to and can start any day of the week you want.

Sometimes AI's are the kind of vacation my family likes. Catamaran rides, snorkle and glass bottom boat rides, climbing walls, and sometimes scuba (which my family does not do) are includes. Sometimes its nice to have the daily maid service and when you pack up your things at the end of the trip you don't have to spend an extra 30-60min pulling the sheets off the bed, running the dishwasher and putting the dishes away, making a run to the dumpster, etc.

When I start to narrow down the places, then I'll definitely check outside the TS world (and rentals from RCI)....thanks for the heads up on the number of restaurants (I'll definitely look at reviews before I pick one).

Palace resorts has a good deal. Search on "pp-ai" and you will get a list of Palace resorts that have the all-inclusive special @ $1000 off per room. For example, Playacar Palace in May was a little over $1100 for 2 people. What you will NOT get is the free tours. If you want that, get your week off a Palace Member.

You can usually get these with any deposit or on Extra Vacations and since some of the EV are as low as $161, I wouldn't waste a deposit on it. Also, I think the buy 1 get 1 is still going on.

check out The Golf at Moon Palace. Two bedroom units for $440 and $2194 all inclusive fee for 4 people - and that is for summer dates.

I went to a Palace last February and it's been on my "I gotta get back there!" list ever since. Tried to change my plane tickets for another week while I was there but my hubby would have none of that! Made him promise to take me back.

I would check the resort directly or even a good travel agency; there are some very good deals out there now.
