How Will Rumored Point System Affect Ongoing Request?

I reserved and deposited my Gold week at MGV with II this week. We are getting ready to put in a request for possible Marriott locations next year.

If I have my request in place before the 'new system' is introduced, will my ability to exchange into these locations be affected?

Or is it better for me to wait and see to place a request until the middle of June when the 'new system' is set to be launched? I am really confused as to which is the better route to take. Any insight appreciated!

If you definitely want to exchange your Grande Vista week then deposit it now. The points system will take awhile to change the inventory with II. Some people will opt to use the new Marriott internal system so II will probably have less Marriott inventory, but I think it will be several years before we see a difference.

We have already deposited our week, but you think it will take several years before we see a difference in the Marriott inventory? So I guess I have a better shot now at a request than later, (assuming this new points system unfolds this summer.)

I have two deposits (NCV and MHZ) several months ago and requested HI for next summer. I am keeping my fingers crossed......

The Same as the Rumored Marriott Jaberwocky

Both are mythical creations that have no bearing on reality.

At this point, I don't think it's going to make any difference. I currently have a 1 bedroom unit on deposit with Interval that I don't plan on using until 2012.

Even if Marriott makes changes, owners who remain in the deeded weeks system are going to outnumber those in any new points based system for several years. Developer inventory that's points based could still get deposited by Marriott into the Interval system and, those who are in the points based system and want to exchange for a non-Marriott resort will be exchanging their points through Interval and, Marriott will have to deposit some sort of corresponding week(s) into Interval to account for the points used in exchange.

Short answer, I don't think it's going to make any difference.

Yes, the internal exchange / points system does have reality. It's not merely a rumor.

I stated on this forum in early 2006 that one of my reliable sources inside MVCI had told me that Marriott was working on such a project. At that time, I was told the expected implementation date was at least two years away, probably longer. Various reliable inside contacts (not resort salespersons) have continued to state to me over the past four years that the program development was alive and well. In late 2007, I was advised that the most likely implementation date would be in early 2009. However, several factors, including the economic problems, which have adversely affected Marriott's timeshare sales, have delayed implementation.

I still don't have any details about the program, nor am I positive of the implementation date. But it's most likely to be soon after the salespeople get their training on the system in mid June.

So then I guess I should put in my request soon. Assuming all things being equal, I will be two weeks ahead of someone who waits until after the 15th when the new system is announced.
