I'm going to Paris for a few days in May (London-Normandy-Paris) and have enough Marriott Pts. for a few days. We've booked a few days at the Marriott County Hotel in London after we've spent the week at the Allen House.

From there, we cross the Channel to either Calais, St. Malo or other (still working out the details on this part).

Please, any Marriott hotel (not timeshare) recommendations forParis ? I'm looking at Categories 6,7 & 8.

Merci !

Most TUGgers seem to like this one the best but it isn't easy to get, I believe. Have a look at the pictures. It is one of the most upscale avenues in Paris and the Metro is there to go to the center of Paris. Have you been there before?

Emmy,
Thanks. This is one of the ones that I was considering. Also in the running was the Arche de Triomphe (same category, I think) and possibly, but not a real consideration, the Marriott Trocadero.

You've comfirmed the leanings towards my first choice.

Haven't been there, but am going on a celebratory occasion, possibly !

Thanks again

We stayed 7 days at Marriott Champs Elysees in Spring of 2009. Our week there was great and I would recommend it. However, we have not stayed at any other Marriotts in Paris, so really can't compare.

Hi Beags,

We also stayed at the Marriott Champs Elysees for a week in 2005 and loved every minute of it. The best part was its location. Also at the time they gave Gold/Platinum member free breakfast which would have costed 15-20 Euros per person. I'm sure it's more now.

Anyway, the other Marriott in Paris that was highly regarded is Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel, also in a great location. I have not stayed there yet but have heard lots of good things about it.

We've been to Paris four times now, each time for 7 night stays on points at the CE. The Marriott CE is especially good for first time visitors as the location can't be beat IMO. Here's a mini video I made of our 2009 visit:

If it's your first trip to London you've also selected the best possible location in County Hall. You'll have a great time in both places.

Been to the Champs-Elysees Marriott on points for five nights several years ago. The location is unbeatable.

Pwrshift: I just watched your wonderful video. What is the music? It's great. What is the singer saying? Any chance it's on youtube or iTunes. A great sounding song.

Done ! Four nights at the Champs-Elysses it is.

160,000 pts.

Thank you to everyone for helping me "over the fence" on this one.

13th time to London, first to Normandy (staying inside the walls of Mont St. Michel - Croix Blanche and some Relais brand Chateaus) and first to Paris.

I loved the video.

Merci beaucoup !

I've stayed at the CE and it is a great location. The hotel itself is nothing special IMO. Small rooms and absolutely horrible food. The next time we went we stayed at La Defense. It's in the business district so there's not much going on there at night but it's right next to a major subway/rail link and that's what makes it so convenient. Same small rooms but we learned our lesson and didn't eat there. It's a CAT 6 and very easy to get into on points compared to the others.

Good luck choosing, it's a great city.

Great movie, Brian. I looked at your other Marriott movies too. Awesome music in the Arizona one.

I found another Paris movie here:

"Paris" by Michael Marygin.

Wow, that's a lot of points. We went on a travel package (cat 7 certificate for a week plus enough miles for two airline tickets) and I think was only for 220K points?

Remember, location, location, location and their is no better Marriott location in Paris than the Champs Elysees. Stayed their over New Years Eve and it was awesome. Great service, great hotel, and fantastic location. The prices in the restaurants and lounges are very, very high but it is Paris. Enjoy!!

Beags --

Splurge on a private tour of Normandy that includes walking the beaches and battlefields before you go to the memorial. We took my dad (a WWII vet, but stationed elsewhere) on one about 10 years ago and it was one of the most memorable days of my life -- it truly puts the memorial in perspective.

WOW ! Thank you for all the wonderful insights, videos and advice ! I am brand new to the Marriott system (I do not own -my dearest friend has one(recently) and is not knowledgable, either !) and need to apply myself to learning how to utilize it. I will read up on everything here.

Dave M & Lisa H - Another WOW ! - This is like "money in the pocket" as I didn't know this either. I may call Marriott and speak to them as to how we can reconfigure 250,000 pts. "to da max".

JerseyGirl - This is exactly how we'd like to tour the battlefield, beaches & momument. I will Google for info on private tours, but if you can give me the info of the tour you took, I'd be grateful.

All Tuggers: If you'd like for me to place a momento, flowers, anything at a relative's, friend's, association brother's grave, let me know ahead of time. I probably won't have the time to find the particular grave, but will leave it at the appropriate place to honor the fallen.

End of year coming for point purchases.

A reminder to you MR point users that you can buy up to 50,000 points each year (100,000 for spouses) before the end of December ... And if you need more for a special air+hotel pkg get another 100,000 on January 2nd. That might get you enough points to fly business class with the pkgs and really save on comparable cash costs for flights.

For another special occasion in Paris you might prebook real early what many reviewers consider the No 1 restaurant in the world...Taillevent....budget permitting, of course. The Lido just up from the CE is outstanding for dinner show. Le Train Bleu is a don't miss dinner too.

We've also stayed at the "La Defense" location for Marriott, much cheaper but right beside the Metro and a quick ride downtown. Very pleasant hotel and staff.

We stayed at the CE for Thanksgiving in 2009. The location was extremely convenient for a first-time visit. It is equivalent to staying in Times Square in New York. Staff was wonderful-we got upgraded to a larger room. Plenty to see and eat in the area. Metro was right down the block (we even used it to get to/from the airport). Next time, for the 'price' we may try the La Defense Courtyard. As mentioned before, it seems like its an easy shot into downtown from there. We have to consider where to stay IF our kids join us as I think the CE standard rooms are designed only for double occupancy.

Depending on when you go, there could be plenty of private apartments for rent throughout town for decent prices (like $125/night USD for some ads we saw for the center of town near Notre Dame).

Have fun -
