Any elite status members here?

We're considering the idea of re-sale in terms of gaining more pts. However, we know this would mean a forfeiture of Elite status.

Is it worth it? Ideally, we want to trade to hard-to-get places like Portugal - and if this status doesn't give us an advantage in this area - I guess we aren't interested.

Thanks for any responses/advice.

Yes, there are elite memebers here.

You will hear two different views on this subject. Some here love elite status, whereas others do not think it is worth the extra money for the perks offered. I am of the later group. :)

I am elite status (lowest tier) and I really do like the perks/benefits. But I wouldn't buy direct from developer just to get them when the resale prices are so much lower. I own several weeks at affiliates, and they count toward elite. And my Hawaii purchase from the developer over 10 years ago (at a very good price I might add) qualified as the required direct HGVC developed resort purchase. So I sort of fell into elite status.

I am at the Elite Plus level. I acquired the points prior to learning about the resale market through TUG. The benefits are nice but not worth the extra money it cost. Elite members may currently book up to a year in advance at Kingsland and Parc Soleil even if they are not owners at those resorts. Elite members may also book up to a year in advance at the Grand Mayans and Club Intrawest.

John, were they developer purchases or resale?
At our last 2 owners updates, we were told that resale affiliate purchases don't count toward elite, even with a contemporaneous developer purchase.

While I can't speak for certain since I am not John, I do know a few people here got elite status on resales when it was first introduced. HGVC has now put a stop to this, but it did happen initially when they were launching Elite status and there was confusion over the program.

Do affiliates always count towards elites regardless of how they are purchased? It kinda of makes sense since they would be outside the normal chain of control for HGVC. If so this could be an intresting way to get in the elite status.

3 of my affiliate weeks were purchased from the developer, which was Mariner Corp, the pre-cursor to HGVC. The 4th week was purchased resale (had to as all the Sanibel resorts are sold out), but it was purchased from the on-site sales office. It is supposed to count towards elite, but I can't tell for certain since I was already at the lowest tier of elite, and that purchase wouldn't have pushed me to the next level anyway.
