I'm interested in starting up a discussion group for folks that have dealt with the company Timeshare Adventures. I currently have a property for sale with them and would like to hear what other folks have to say.

I did pay them $795 to list my timeshare. I know that this group advises against it. But since they do take care of the closing costs, I thought that it would be worth the extra money not to have to deal with it myself.

Have you heard anything about this group in particular?

Which means they have no reason to help you sell your timeshare, because if they did find you a buyer it would cut into their profits.

Are you trying to make me feel better or worse? Timeshare Adventures does have a lovely website. But from the email conversations that I have been having with them today, it looks like that is pretty much all they have. I'm getting the impression that they simply put the new posting out there and then that's it.

Yes - see the link I posted above.

You have been scammed - since you have already paid them, what motivation do they have to actually SELL your timeshare, now?

My suggestion is that you 1) dispute the charges with your credit card company immediately. 2) Send them a certified letter - return receipt - cancelling the contract.

I can do that? On what grounds? They have posted the ad. I agree with you that I've been scammed. But do you really think I have grounds to get out of this?

I agree. I'm on the phone with the CC company now. They have me on the line while they call Timeshare Adventures.

You have been scammed on the grounds that TUG and many other websites offer listing services for 0-$50.

Are you trying to make me feel better or worse?
Neither. I'm merely describing the situation; under the arrangement presented there is actually a negative incentive for them to find a buyer for you. . Whether that makes you feel better or worse is up to you.

You indicate elsewhere that they have a nice looking web site, but that's probably all they have. It's unlikely that they will do anything more than what they've already done, especially if that means actually making a sale, which will chew into their profits.

Well, it looks like I'm going to give it a little longer. The Credit Card company got me on the phone with Robert from Timeshare Adventures. We had a very good conversation and he is going to work with me to get the property sold. I'll keep watching their sales of my particular resort and hope that I see some results. The fee is not unfair if it actually produces results. Robert seemed very sincere. I'll give it some more time.

Thanks for all of you getting back to help me so quickly.
Susan

Susan - These people make money by sounding very sincere. There is no listing service that's worth $795. That's nearly what a LEGITIMATE broker charges, and they don't charge you anything until AFTER the sale.

Have you looked to see what your timeshare is selling for on ebay? http://realestate.shop.ebay.com/Tim..._dmpt=Timeshares&_fln=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282

How much does Timeshare Adventures have it listed for?

My guess is that Timeshare Adventures has told you that you can sell it for a lot more than the current resale value.

I wish you well, but I'll bet that you will be back in 6 mos. with no sale, and past the time when you can dispute this with your credit card company.

They have what they want - your fee. Game over.

If they contacted you then it is better than 99% certain all they ever plan to do or get is your upfront fee. They may, or may not, continue to answer your inquiries for a short time (until it is too late to ask your credit card folk to reverse the charge) then they will become unreachable.

Try to get your money back NOW or assume it is gone and they will never sell your week. Start looking for other ways to sell or give it away as this group will never deliver a sale. Sorry.

I do appreciate your good wishes. Unfortunately, it seems that my credit card company cannot help me here regardless. But it will not take me six months to come back. I believe in transparency. So I will keep you up to date with what is going on.

Thanks again for your fast response and attempts to help me.

Not on topic

Hi...sorry this isn't really on topic but just out of concern...looking at your user name I see an email address...I hope it isn't one you use regularly because these boards are publicly viewed...and there are plenty of scammers and spammers out there who might send you emails trying to sell your timeshare for an upfront fee. Not sure if you can change your user name or not and have it be retroactive????

Pretty website with unrealistic asking prices. They have Wyndham Bonnet Creek listing for $240,000! Actual value is probably less than $2,000.

Interestingly enough they have "Consumer Alert" link on their site which mentions up-front fee scam alerts.

Thanks for the tip - I've gotten it changed.

why is this a scam?

I do not know anything about this company, but will all due respect, why is this a scam? Just because something is expensive DOES NOT make it a scam, which implies some sort of fraud. I just posted about my experience with www.sellmytimesharenow.com and they DID help me sell my timeshare! Also, go on line and google "buy a timeshare". What comes up? sellmytimesharenow is one of the first on the list that people see. And no, I do not work for this company or any other company of this nature. If a company says that they are going to list your timeshare on their website what else do you expect them to do? Anyway, I do not think you should panic people that everything out there is a scam, although there certainly are plenty out there.

Linda -This is why it's a scam:

1) Most upfront fee companies are in business to collect the upfront fee - they have no intention of selling your timeshare.

2) They charge hundreds of dollars to list your timeshare on their website, which is something you can do youself, on many website for 0-$50.

3) If you look at the website that is referenced in this thread, you will see that the listing prices are far about the market value - and they will never sell at that price. Which is exactly what happened to you - you had to lower your price to $1 to get rid of it.

I know you are happy to get rid of your timeshare, but you paid a lot of money for something you can easily do for yourself.

We have a rule on TUG prohibiting duplicate posts, so please do not create any new posts promoting the company you used.

No Panic Intended

Hi Linda -
I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to panic anyone. I am working with Timeshare Adventures and I intend to stick with them for now. It's only been around 3 months that I have been listing with Timeshare Adventures. It's too soon to expect an offer or a sale. But I have been keeping a spreadsheet of their listings for my resort and I haven't seen any of them sell in the time that I have been with Timeshare Adventures. So, I got a bit jumpy. I have spoken with a gentleman named Robert at Timeshare Adventures. And he is going to help me with my listing. I am hopeful and open to seeing how this works out over the next couple of months. I'll keep TUG posted on how I'm doing.

Hi Denise -
You seem to be fairly knowledgeable. My listing is for a 2 Bedroom Condo - Red Week (sleeps 6 to 8) at Sheraton Vistana Resort in Orlando. What do you think is the fair price for this listing?

Timeshare Adventures

I don't know if this is allowed, but I found this doing a google search:

Find out what state Timeshare Adventures is located in. States are outlawing timeshare advanced fees:

You might want to check with the BBB and then redispute this with your credit card company.

I actually own the same thing, and it was given to me for free. If I was going to get rid of it, I'd offer it for $1 and offer to pay all closing costs.
