Calling all UA 1Ks

If you have 1K status on United and have any Systemwide Upgrades ("SWU") that will expire at the end of this month or next month, please call Mileage Plus now and ask for a one year extension. This new benefit has not been publicized but is being discussed currently on the UA forum at FlyerTalk.

The extension is limited to one expiring SWU and your request (apparently) must be made before the end of this month.

I know it works because I called this morning, got approval for one extension and saw the positive result appear in my Mileage Plus upgrade account within 30 minutes.

I made 1K for the first time this year. Haven't seen any SWU deposited yet, but it's good to know in case I need to do that next year. Thanks!

Congratulations on becoming a 1K! That takes a lot of flying!

Your 6 SWUs should post to your e-upgrade account on or about January 1.

Thanks Dave. What a year! Too much travel for me if you ask my hubby, but I enjoyed every one of them. Three trips to Asia and three trips to Europe, five of them were business trips, the other one using AA miles. Looking ahead, I see less oversea trips in 2005, so it's going to be a challenge to maintain the status, may even need to do a MR or two.

Be careful. It's a disease. As far as I know, there is no cure.

As are Asian hotel stays

My apologies for not PM'ing you in advance. It was the least I could've done. I won't err next time.

Are you going to be in SIN in March? I'm working on the days surrounding the last weekend right now...

1P this year, perhaps 1K next, who knows

Pat

Yes.

But it's the first weekend, not that last one. To take advantage of UA's March triple miles bonus offer, I booked a March 3-5 SIN run with a seven-hour turnaround at SIN, staying in the airport transit hotel. (SIN = Singapore - for others who get angry at our use of airport lettering and other acronyms. NRT = Tokyo. )

If you decide to change your plans and go that first weekend, I would love to meet you or fly in one direction with you. I fly through SFO on 3/3 and back through SFO on 3/5. BOS-SFO-NRT-SIN-NRT-SFO-BOS.

I'll be flying BOS-SFO-BOS the last weekend of March (3/24-26) to see family.

My only other SIN trip next year will likely be at Thanksgiving - to see family in Malaysia.

Thanks for the tip. I traded all mine for CR1s this year.

We're in Japan from 2/27-3/5, flying NRT-SFO 3/5, arriving at 11:15am in SFO and flying back to our local at 1pm. I'm using up the Expedia rooms on that trip. If you're on UA 838 out of NRT, we're in 39 A-C. Come back and visit the unwashed masses We'll be in the RCC after clearing customs and heading over to domestic. I know I'm missing the 3x on the outbound, but had to balance the miles vs the excellent K fare I got out of our local for both of us.

I'm looking at a SIN run the last weekend of the month, using some of the hotel bookings from the deal I found. We'll see. As a fallback, I'm tracking a MOD-SFO-SMF-LAX-ORD-BDL-ORD-SFO-MOD deal for 3/6-7...got it down under 300.00 right now, hoping to do better.

March is going to be an interesting month

Close, but not quite.

I'm on 852 NRT-SFO leaving NRT at 5:00pm. Your flight leaves at 7:15. If you'll be getting in to NRT before 4:15 or so, we could still meet.

We'll be taking the NRT Exp from Yokohama, more than likely, and should arrive 3 pm or so. I wanted to wander a bit at NRT and get the feel for the place. Which lounge? I don't know NRT. Is the RCC OK, or should we go to SQ? SQ's lounge sure seems like a long way from the UA gates.....edited to add that, if not on a SQ ticket, I don't think I can get in anyway, even with a RCC card/*G, but wanted to take a peek anyway

I had looked at the earlier flight, and may still see if we can standby for it, but I didn't see the cheap seats I wanted on it with our open jaw, so went for the later one. Either way, we'd have gotten/will get home at the same time, due to cx in SFO.

I'm sure there will be a number of FT runners in NRT that weekend....we'll have to see if we can arrange a little do somewhere. Our plans past the 2nd are still wide open.

Pat

I arrive in NRT at 2:40 and can go directly to the RCC. I could meet you at a specific spot in there or, if you don't have access, at the entrance at around 3:15-3:20. We can finalize plans as the date approaches.

Sounds good. I have a RCC card so no issues there. We'll have GSM cell phone, but will drop it at the JAL counter in NRT, but you can always get me online at the RCC on Yahoo (if the wi-fi is working there consistently by then)...or I'll have the CSR page you.
