Air to Alaskan Cruise
We need to fly from Albany, NY to Vancouver, BC on June 10,06. Cruising the 12th to the 19th. Going inland with a motorhome from the 19th to the 26th. We then need a flight from Anchorage, Alaska to Albany, NY on the 26th. Have not found anything cheaper than $630 round trip per person. Anyone with ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Nelson |

We did the same trip in reverse (Albany/Anchorage -Vancouver/Albany) last June and those airfares aren't out of line. This kind of "open jaw" flight in high season doesn't draw a lot of bargain flights. This is one of the downsides of a one-way cruise. You could save some money if you search out flights with two stopovers and don't mind spending all day getting there. The flight over will probably be Air Canada with a change in Toronto. Be aware that Toronto has been under construction. You may want to check and see if the new terminal is open. Otherwise,be prepared to haul yourself to onother building and have to pick up and recheck your luggage along with going through customs. You mikght want to look for an airport with Jetblue and fly them to Seattle and take the Shuttle to Vancouver. You will probably save a few hundred dollars and get a direct flight in that direction. There is no easy solution to Anchorage.

I agree. That pricing is about right. If you have FF miles with an airline that flies between your travel cities, you should consider using them for this itinerary, if FF seats are available at this late date. At that fare, it would be a good use of those miles.

Checked with United Air to see if FF miles could be used with this trip. Only seats available were on the flight from Alb to Yvr and not times we wanted. We checked all the sites we use for booking and settled on flights for $664/person. The flights fit our time schedule. These flights seem to go up every day and seats are going fast.
Any tuggers cruising on the Island princess on June 12-19? |

We did a similar flight in 2002 and the cost was around $600 per person. Almost as much as what the cabin for the cruise cost.
