The HGVC site doesn't give much info on the Plus and Premier other than they cost more points and may offer better furnishings or views.

Has anyone ever spent the extra points for Plus or Premier and what was the difference? Worth it?

Do you ever "get lucky" just using your standard 7000 points and end up in a Plus or Premier location?

Depends on the resort/location. For example, at Myrtle Beach a Plus room gets you an ocean front room and a regular room will give you a partial ocean view (and a great view of the side of the hotel next to the HGVC @ AOC). To me, it was totally worth the extra points to have a much nicer view there. I can't speak to the other resorts though.

You may get lucky booking club season and pull a premier unit, but if you want to book at 12 months and not have to worry then buy where you want to stay. I own a premier unit at HHV Lagoon, you can't put a price on that view compared to looking at the parking garage. I traveled with my invalid father, he spent a lot of time lanai sitting. If you have kids, no view near the pool may be more to your liking, it all depends. Some premier are Penthouse units and you don't have to listen to dancing elephants above you.

I think it really depends on the property. My own opinion from the properties I'm familiar with is as follows:

HHV/Lagoon: Plus is worth it because it is the higher floors, therefore an improved view of the ocean (and less ground noise from the Paradise Pool). Premier rocks because its ocean-front.

HHV/Kalia: Plus is worth it because it is on the Ocean Side and has good (if far) view of the ocean. Standard is City-View (which is still nice)

HHV/Grand Waikikian: I don't care for either 1BR or 1BR Plus because they are predominantly on the Street Side (and its a busy street). 1BR Premier is high floors and on the Diamond Head side, but its a ton of points. I think 2BR Standard is a "good value" (relatively speaking considering the overall high points for GW) because a number of the units are still on the Diamond Head side and have Peak-A-Boo views of the Ocean (per a thread in here). It's hard to get excited about the 2BR Plus/Premier at GW because the point requirements are so high.

Kings Land: My preference is the Standard units, and not because of the lower points, but because it is ground floor. For this property, because of the non-ocean view, I don't see the value of the Plus or Premier designations and being on second or third floor. I would be happy with either the 7,000 or 10,500 Standard rooms, and would be a little disappointed to get the Plus units (can't be too disappointed because its Hawaii). I would rather have a 10,500 Standard Room in Phase 1 than an 8,400 Plus Room in Phase 2 -- because of the ground floor, greater living area and nice porch.

I hope that helps!

Best,

Greg

I didn't realize your unit was a Premier unit -- that is a fabulous unit. When I was there in Feb, Zora was staying in a Premier and she gave me a tour -- that is a great great spot.

Congratulations and enjoy it!!

Best,

Greg

Some people might look at the high point Kingsland premier units and think its a good points per mf ratio, never stay there, it gets three weeks in Vegas or Orlando 1br. It's a good number of points to own but too high for trading in to.

That's great information. This thread could be useful with input from those who have experience at other resorts as well.

I see there are quite a few Carlsbad residents who post!
