Villas at Fairway this summer
I have my 24 hours to decide on staying in a 2 bdrm this summer. The reviews on TUG and Tripadvisor are so mixed that I need some more input. I am told that the unit I am getting is not with a loft.
To all of you Tuggers that have stayed at this resort, do you think that we should stay here? I am asking about the units since the resort seems like it has lots of activities. Negative comments that worry me are regarding cleanliness of the unit and the swimming pools.

Cindy, there have many negatives on the 2 bedroom units. We stayed in a 3 and LOVED it. The resort is nice and they have lots to do.
If it's a trade through RCI they may not give you the room # on your exchange. They changed our room number but it was still a 3 bedroom. Anne |

I posted a message about the units at Tree Tops and Fairways a few days ago. I would not stay in the two bdrm units at either resort. During our last trip there, we asked to be changed four times. All of the units we were sent to in Tree Tops and Fairways were in horrible condition. What we found was when you are booked into Tree Tops and refuse to accept the unit assigned due to its condition, they will send you to Fairways even though that section has a Friday check in. Well, it does not matter. All of the units left a lot to not be desired. We finally agreed to the last unit after being changed four times. We were tired of looking at the filthy units. My suggestion is for you not to unload the car until you have had a look at the units. We learned this lesson a few years ago. I would pass on staying at either resort unless you can get the 3 bdrm at the Villas at Fairways, or are assigned to a unit in Tree Tops with a higher number. I have a friend who owns at Tree Tops. Her maintenance fees are now over $700. and for what????????
Yes, there are a few good amenities at the resort, but that does not account for the ugly, flithy units. I just do not understand why the owners are not lashing out about the condition of the units. We are preparing to check out of Shawnee Ridgetop in about an hour. We are in Rt39. This unit was refurbished in 2005 and it is great. The unit is a two bdrm, but with 3 full baths! The jacuzzi is on the first floor and the three bathrooms are pretty large. I was very surprised by the size of this unit, but there is no porch. That was fine with us. It's too cold to sit out there anyway. I was also surprised that this section is pretty empty, but RCI had no additional last call units. I wonder why? |

Fairway was fine!
We spent a week there in early October and enjoyed it very much. It was roomy, clean and comfortable, in an excellent location for all we wanted to do.

I hope from reading the two last postings, that this is an indication that Fernwood is upgrading those units at Tree Tops and Fairways. We have stayed in both resorts several times over the years and simply cannot understand why so many of the units are in bad condition. Maybe it would be good for Tuggers to post the unit numbers that are acceptable. At least the front desk will honor a request to be changed to another unit if you check in early enough. I would have to go back into the archives to find the unit numbers that we turned down due to their horrible conditions.

That is a great suggestion hajjah. Maybe if we knew which unit to ask for, we would be more comfortable.
Based on what you have said, we will try to release the hold we have on the unit. Even now there are too many conflicting opinions for us to be comfortable.

OK Cindy: Here's what I am including from my review posted from our stay 10/31/04: We turned down Tree Tops # 1108 and were then sent to Fairways only to also turn down; #1038, 1111, 1670, 1695. We were in # 1669 during April 04, but that unit also left a lot to be desired. The unit with the least complaint was # 1534. That is the one we finally decided to take after looking at so many others.
It should not take so many requests to be moved during a vacation to finally decide to stay when exchanging. I do know that the 3 bdrm units at Fairways are very nice. Also, the newer units at Tree Tops, with the higher numbers are very different from those old shabby ones. Who wants to go through so much drama while on a vacation? My review dated 10/04 was very complete. This is what we experienced and would therefore not wish to stay there again. Read the reviews and decide for yourself. JMHO |
