Hey all,
I just wondering what floors are best to stay in at the HGVC Waikola Condo's on the big island??? Is it wise to call ahead of time and request a certain floor? We are heading out there this August. Any advice is always helpful. Thanks so much!!

We have only stayed at Kingsland, and were on the first floor. I ended up really liking the first floor and will request it next time, it was very convenient for the pool and for the barbecue. Have fun!

Vball,

If you don't want to risk having to deal with loud footfalls from the unit above, you'll want to be on the 3rd floor.

In the four buildings that border the golf course, the majority of the 2BR Premier units are on the 3rd floor. (2BR Premier units are also at each end of the 2nd floor, so you'll want to call in advance to ask for the 3rd floor.)

I haven't stayed in either of the two buildings that border the street, but I believe that the 3rd-floor units there (as well as the end units on the 2nd floor) are 2BR Plus.

Hello

Unit assignment is based on unit type, standard 7000 pts, Plus 8400 pts, or Premier 9600 pts.

Building 16 (1600) and 17 (1700) are standard 7000 pts for all 3 floors. Request top fl for no overhead noise as well as road noise since all units face the road. The Plus units 8400 pts are the 1st and 2nd floors in the other 4 buildings facing the golf course. The end units do not have a third floor above it, so no overhead noise.

The Premier 9600 pts are the penthouse 3rd fl units in these 4 buildings. These units have slightly different features, higher ceilings, brown tiles in master bath, multi head shower, wood divider between bedroom area and master bath, shower instead of tub in second bedroom.

Thanks for clearing this up.

Since the online reservation description for Premier states "second or third floor", it sounds like the 2nd floor end units are Premier rather than Plus.

I forgot. You are correct. Thanks

Check the online system

We have stayed on the top floor of building 18 a couple of times. If memory serves correctly, we caught it in off-season for 7000 points. Note that there is a noise factor from the pool area in 18. Building 19 is further away, so the noise factor might not be as loud. Not a real problem, but a consideration.

We are in a second floor end unit of building 18. We are right next to the pool. It's perfect for the kids. It is a premier unit. I could not have asked for a better location.

I've only been in third-floor premier units. Does the second-floor premier have the same lanai?

King's Land

Long time listener, first time caller. I believe the OP is referring to HGVC Waikoloa? In case you're considering King's Land, noise from units above 1st/2nd floor has never been an issue for us, so I'm assuming it is better noise insulated than HGVC Waikoloa, but if someone is wearing wood sandals or high heels on a wood floor you are going to hear it no matter what, so if this sort of thing bothers you, then this is a consideration. 1st/2nd floor have lava rock/palm tree views. 3rd floor has golf course views. 1st floor is just personal preference if you like having an open Lanai vs. being on the first floor where someone can just walk up to your door/window. I will say phase 1 King's land have really nice lanais with outdoor couches, table, etc. so you'll definitely want to spend some time out there with coffee, wine, etc. For me personally, I like the "feel" of privacy a 2nd floor enclosed lanai provides versus a lanai open to the common area, although there are limited walking paths (to the pools/BBQ) so you won't actually see anyone walking by. I also prefer the 2nd floor views vs. the golf course views since I prefer the illusion of being at a resort. The 3rd floor ruins the illusion where you can clearly see you are smack dab in the middle of a lava field surrounded by a golf course. The views aren't great, so no sense spending extra for them. By the way, if you do stay at King’s land, make sure you stay in Phase 1 buildings. Phase 2 are across the street, don't have any pools, are smaller, and have chintzy metal/glass tables/chairs vs. wood table and plush outdoor couches in phase 1.

I couldn't agree with you more. The Kingsland phase 2 units are chintzy beyond belief!
