I am HGVC owner in the making, and already thinking about open season use in addition to my probably 7,000 platinum points.

Since I do not have access to reservations yet - can someone take a look and share what kind of availability is there during skiing season at each of these resorts for open season reservations at this point (any size of room).

I wonder if it is realistic to expect to be able to pick up a high ski season thru open season at one of these two?

As of this morning, I see open season availability 11/19-11/23 for Studio Plus, 1BR, 2BR and 3BR at Valdoro. 11/30-12/7 there is club points availability in Studio Plus, 2BR and 3BR (at various dates within this range).

At Sunrise, there is no availablity until March 24, 2014 in a Studio Plus.

IMHO You might get a few days here and there, but don't expect long stays. Most of the prime ski time is scooped up quickly. Mud season will have the most availability.

I don't track it a lot, but I have looked periodically. Good Luck.

I do track this quite a bit at Valdoro (since I am close). There will be some Open Season throughout the ski season, especially in January and early February, but it will most of it will be 2- maybe 3-day mid-week stuff. It is quite rare to find a weekend, and even more rare to find a full week (but it does happen).

In order to get a prime reservation, you really need to book at the 9-month timeframe, and if not available then, check constantly (sometimes Valdoro releases its club season inventory at 8 or 7 months out). As soon as it is released, most of it disappears quickly. The Open Season inventory is from people cancelling reservations, so that just trickles in as people change their plans.

Bottom line -- there is no way of counting on getting an Open Season reservation for a specific time, and Club Season reservations have to be planned out far in advance.

Thank you for checking. So it seems to be extremely limited inventory for ski season. Basically this means don't count on Open Season availability there. I am guessing Club Season for high skiing season is very limited as well as Home Weeks scoop it all up...

Generally - how does availability show in the reservation system? I assume you can only see Open Season availability in Open Season window (30-1 days)? And Club Season availability in Club Season window (9 mo - 30 days) - is this correct?

So if ones sees availability for Club Season at 31 days out - does that mean that the next day all available inventory will convert to Open Season availability on a first come/first served basis? In other words, for more popular destinations, does Open Season inventory goes as soon as the window opens?
