We're planning way ahead this time. May or June in St Pete's / clearwater area, 2007. We've never been there - we're from Alberta. Any good advice on Resorts to try for? Should I put in a "search"? What are your favorites? We will rent a car.
I like the Sand Pebbles on Treasure Island. I've stayed there twice. It's right on the beach. It's an older resort but they keep it up nicely. Pool faces the ocean. shaggy
The Redington Ambassador is both RCI and II and IMHO is the nicest resort up in that area if you are booking a two bedroom unit or 3 bedroom unit as the one bedrooms are lockoffs and are a bit on the small side.
The beach has nice sand and the resort is not large and is within in few minutes drive Johns passe.
The II units were built later and have a bit more amemities.
We weren't real happy with the Coral Reef when we went there two winters ago. The snapshot in the RCI catalogue looks real nice tho!
For one thing, when you're looking for the Coral Reef from the road you first see a large delapidated parking lot in horrible shape. Weeds growing right out of cracks in parking lot. The "entrance" from the parking lot is to a hotel. We had a 1 br with a sofa bed in the living room. There was barely enough room to pull out the sofa bed, never mind where do you put the living room chairs that you have to move for the bed?
The Coral Reef unit is incredibly long with only the two end units on each side having Ocean Front views. We were somewhere between the Ocean Front and hotel side. The on-site restaurant was never open when we were there. The pool was very pretty and large, but not heated. On the plus side they did have three seperate outdoor Jacuzzis that were scattered around the large pool area. The landscaping was okay but needed some serious tweaking, along with painting trim and some other easy maintenance tasks. It was just "okay" but I've stayed at much, much better.
recently stayed at the sandpiper...which is part of the tradewinds..it is less expensive..but you can use the tradewinds amenities...it is just recently renovated..and was very nice..we had two rooms..combo kit/living room and a bedroom.. spa is wonderful...
