We booked flights for friends through Expedia on AA for May. Original flights were to fly out and arrive on the same day. A few days ago we received an e-mail that the flights had changed. The new flights had the departure going out the night before with an overnight layover in ORD and then the same flight from ORD to CUN. Looking online didn't find many great options to switch to except flying pretty much the same times as the original flights except this flight went through MIA.
So we called Expedia who said we had to call AA to get it changed. The call to AA was rather painless and the agent switched the flight to the MIA connection without us even asking for it. So if it made this much sense, why didn't their system just switch the flights to the MIA connection instead of building in an overnight layover in ORD?
Once again, you have to always babysit your flights until day of departure.
