Cancun--1 Nite-Friday 6/16

Help!!! We are staying at the Royal Sands from 6/17-6/24. If we come in one day early the plane tickets are 1/2 the price. Can anyone suggest a good reasonable hotel for one night?? How about a studio at the Royal Sands for that Friday nite. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!! Thanks!

Did you rent the Sands unit directly from an owner? If so, maybe that owner can look on the owner website where other owners rent their units.

We're going to the Royal Caribbean next month having rented from an owner. We, too, are arriving a day before check-in. The owner we rented from put us in touch with an owner who was renting the Friday night we needed and now we have one night at the Royal Sands before our RC week.

I agree, try to rent at the Sands, if there is availability. A second thought is the Omni, Hilton, or one of the Marriotts. We have stayed at the JW using Marriott points to extend our Royal Resort vacations in the past (and to save money on airfare). We have also stayed at the Omni one time for the same reason. I would pick the Marriotts over the Omni any day, BUT, I think if you are actually paying, the Omni will be much cheaper. Also, the Omni has recently renovated, so it looks much nicer now then it did when we were there. If you can extend 3 more days, the Omni is having a special now to get people back to Cancun. I got an email about it. It was for 3 nights, for I belive $580 (for 2). You get an ocean view room, bottle of champaigne in the room when you arrive, free breakfast daily for 2 (either at the restaurant or via room service), a dinner for 2 at the expensive Italian restaurant, including a bottle of wine), and 10 or 15% (I forgot the exact %) off all foods and drinks at the resort. If I had the time, I would probably take them up on this offer!

One way is to see who is an owner here on TUG. Look at the post right above yours and send a private message to that person asking if she might look on the owner's website for you. Also you could go to the TUG classified ads and get the names of owners who are selling or renting.

What you want to ask whoever you contact is if they would look on the owners' website for you to see if anyone is advertising the night you need. I don't know if non-owners can access the site, but maybe a helpful owner would let you know.

Another thing you can do is post on the Last Minute Rentals board within 45 days of the date you want asking if anyone has that night available.

How many people are traveling with you? Want some adventure? Since it is your first nite upon arrival take the Playa Express Bus to Playa Del Carmen and spend the night in one of the 176 hotels in that city. The bus ride is about 45 minutes and cost 7.00. Last month I stayed at the cutest hotel the Hotel Kinbe. No phones or T.V. in the room. It is one block away from the Ocean and has a fab terrace it is sort of a tree-top hotel type. I stayed there for two-nites and then checked into my five-star resort. The cost was 60.00 per nite. The bus back to Cancun the next day will be 3.40 per person and will take you to the downtown terminal. From there you will take a cab to your resort for 10.00. You can't check in to the resort till late in the afternoon anyway. The major problem with this plan is once you stay in Playa it will be hard to return to Cancun. Hi, a nice place to stay is the Sheraton and it is right across the street from La Isla (the mall). I booked thru Expedia or Travelocity so you are protected by your credit card and it was only about $82. This was last year so prices may have changed.

The Sheraton was torn down after Wilma. They are building a timeshare there now.

I am an owner at the Royal Islander. We will be there in November and I rented an extra night. How large a unit do you need?

We are looking for the same but in April. The Sands quoted me around 175 for the hotel room and the limit is 2 people. Unfortunately we usally pick up an extra night through priceline, but this year all their inventory is still closed. Does anyone other recomendations for Playa?
