I'm in the process of planning a large family reunion in Las Vegas. I've been to all the HGVC locations there except Trump, but am fuzzy on a couple of details. We're primarily considering the Boulevard (nee Strip) and Paradise (nee Karen) locations, largely due to the fact that I think we can get Open Season easier at those locations. Between various family members we should have enough points for 6-10 2 or 3 BR units, but we need more :D

1. Do these both have BBQ areas? I'm pretty sure Paradise does, but not sure about Boulevard.

2. Parking. I know that Paradise has free parking. I recall that Boulevard charges, but this thread indicates that the charges are waived for members. If we get a mixture of point and Open Season units, and the members do the check-in, can we get parking fees waived for the non-members? How much are the parking fees, per day?

Other thoughts? I like the Boulevard location myself, because there will be lots of kids and they'll love that pool. But I'm concerned about the isolation and the parking situation.

Thanks,
Bob

With kids, I would put the Flamingo at the top of the list. Great pools and grounds to run around on. The Elara is a great location, but don't know about BBQ. You should call and ask if that is available.

Las Vegas Blv has free self parking and has gas grills. You can follow the address in my signature to our smugmug page. On that page I have an album from a a stay at the LV Blv location from Oct 2013. There is a pic of the gas grills in that album. LV Blv does charge for valet parking but not self parking.

We own at LV Strip, but i have not stayed there since we purchased 4 years ago.

They made a big deal after we purchased our unit to give us credit for the parking... Not sure the free parking makes up for buying from the developer, but that's another story...

Really? We purchased several years ago (only 1 tower at the time) and were told at that time self parking was free but they charged for valet. Even with this as our home resort valet parking has always been at a charge. I hadn't heard that exchangers might be charged for self parking. I guess it's best to just call the resort and ask.

FWIW, I've had salesmen at various resorts tell all sorts of half truths such as, the pools are for owners only, you can rent this unit easily and cover your MF's at this resort and everything else you own. I have a secretary that assists owners with renting their units. Buy this unit and reserve stays at the most popular resorts by booking late with half price points. Buy the cheap week and exchange into the most expensive resorts and various other lies.

Bbq and parking

I can personal say that both the resorts have gas BBQ that i have used.

The hilton/las vegas holtel/wetgate/ on paradise 2 bbqs are jst out side the door of the store( where you get tongs and such to use) while the strip 4 bbqs are all the way through the pool area against the back wall. As fars as bbq as a whole the flamingo also has bbq

As far as parking i did not get charged to self park at the strip and the front desk issues the piece of paper that you wave at the guard of the parking lot but once you are in the lot would you really be driving every car every day and the the pardise location has the tram to get on or travel

Just my two cents as far as location to book.
I would book all big room but at the locations that fit the groups.

Elera, paridise, for the gambelers, flamingo for the kids , trump for the shoppers,
And when you all get together rotate so the same room and host does not get worn out, but remember you are on vacation and not everyone does the same to relax

Thanks all. Tom, Pedro, Jon - Flamingo has always been our go-to place, both personally and for our reunions. But the big hotel pool has been changed to adults-only, so the only pool for the kids is the small timeshare pool (or another kids hotel pool, but I believe it's small too). So the Flamingo has suddenly gone from "go-to" to one that's pretty bad for kids. That, combined with the bad maintenance problems there has us looking elsewhere.

As far as parking. Yes, when the Strip first opened, self-parking was free and valet was charged. But I thought I had heard that even self-parking has a fee now, since they built the parking structure. Is that wrong? Or do we need to sweet-talk the front desk into enough parking passes for our entire (very large) group?

Thanks for the help. Keep it coming :hi:

I believe you've been told wrong. We were there in Oct. of 2013, self parked every night in the garage and we were not charged.

Parking

I would gester a guesse that you would have no problems get parking passes but if there is any problems here is my fix

As soon as you need another just go to desk an ask for a new one as yours got lost.

They are all the same except for felt pening of date of experation.
I believe that front desk collects all monies and gaurd is just for security and pushing of button to open gates.

When you arive just tell parking gaurd you are checking in and he will let you in with out pass

All that said about parking im sure there are some that will valet as tht is what being on vacation is all about
Taking the easy way and having your self pampered

The strip location is great for staying at the resort. The deli has the BBQ tools to borrow. We have had a few good BBQ experiences there.
