Closing costs

What closing costs should there be when purchasing a ‘right to use’ week, such as MROP? Resellers on eBay seem to say closing costs are the same as for a deeded week. On Bidshares the only cost usually stated by sellers of MROP membership is the MROP/ORE transfer fee.

Is professional legal representative involvement needed for the transfer of a membership certificate? Should I consider escrow on such a purchase?

Closings costs are often just another profit center for resellers of low priced timeshares on eBay and elsewhere. You need to factor them into your bid or offer, as they are generally not negotiable.

If dealing with a large amount of money, escrow is a good idea, as you are generally dealing with someone you don't know and who is out of state. However, like title insurance, it is about your comfort level and how much risk you are willing to take.

As for professional legal involvement, a closing company does not guarantee such, as most closings are handled by non-attorneys. With respect to transfer of a membership, you probably don't need legal representation. However, some memberships have underlying deeds. I can't speak to MROP. Again, it is a comfort/risk issue.
