We just returned from a week at the Royal Sands (April 22-29).

The beach is wider than before as we all have heard, but unfortunately it has quite a lot of shells in it. Not so much that you can not walk on it, but enough to be a bit disappointing. I guess that some areas have even a greater percentage of shells so the Royal Sands came out well.

Pat O'Briens just opened on Friday night. It is completely remodeled and very nice. It does not appear to have as much seating for dinner and seems to be more of a bar for the kids....but we had a great meal out on the deck. It is one of our favorite places.

La Isla is almost completely reopened and looks great. You would never know it took such a direct hit. When we were there in January we never thought it would come back as quickly as it has.

It is nice to see Cancun rebound so quickly.

Hi John;
We were just there too, Apr 22-29 at the Ryl Islander. The beach there was almost perfect. They did a heck of a job. On Sunday we saw the barges they used to dredge the sand and all the equipment was being hauled out of the beach, job is done. The only annoying thing we had is the large Dozers that kept going back and forth (not often) but they were hauling the equipment and trying to level the beach, only problem, a couple of times they went by around 3:00 am, these suckers make a lot of noise.
We walked up to the Sands on the beach and took some pictures of the reconstruction. Some places were hit bad, both Marriotts are still closed, looks like the retaining walls were being rebuilt, the oasis was being redone, the Melia is open, lots of people, some construction, the Hilton is just reopened, they had a party on the last day we were there. I would think by late summer the place should look as good as new.:clap:
