NYC in Aug, Sep or Oct?
Our plans to visit NYC in May/June have not materialized, so we need to reschedule for either Aug, before DD goes back to school, or around "odd" school holidays. We will probably stay 4 nights and our choices would be:
Aug 17 Sep 7 Oct 26 We plan to sightsee and shop -- lots of walking -- our concern is that Aug might be too hot and Oct too cold to be comfortable (I've looked at the historical temp websites). For some reason the hotel rates are really high that weekend in Sep, could it be because of 9/11? Any thoughts or suggestions on the best time to visit are appreciated. |

September or October....if September won't work, it won't be too cold in October. October is one of my favorite times in the city.

October will be sweater or light jacket weather. Central Park will be beautiful at that time of the year.

Re: NYC in Aug, Sep or Oct?
I would definitely vote for October.
Highs should generally be around 60, plenty warm enough for walking around. Bring a jacket. You'll avoid the possibility of heat that can easily get to 90 or so in early September, just as easily as in August. Crowds and especially long lines will be significantly diminished compared with the other two weekends. Overall, a delightful time for a visit to New York. |

Re: NYC in Aug, Sep or Oct?
The week of sept 7th has a holiday in it. That could partially be the reason for the bump in hotel prices.
I agree with the others, October would be my vote. |

Re: NYC in Aug, Sep or Oct?
We'll be there this October, and have been there in October/November numerous times. You won't be sorry. It's beautiful.
Once we were there in September, after a transat cruise, and it monsooned us. I'd never seen so much rain so fast...and the wind whipping through the canyons... Pat |

Re: NYC in Aug, Sep or Oct?
Aug. will definitely be hot and humid. Sept. 7 will probably be hot and humid. Oct. 26 will be getting a bit chilly and breezy, but likely it's still sweater weather with only some small chance of rain.

Re: NYC in Aug, Sep or Oct?
Hummm,
What will the weather be like mid-July? I guess we should expect hot & humid, but exactly what type of things do we need to pack vs. leave at home? Thanks! Rene |

Although August is the hottest & most humid month, July is right up there also. Take a light sweater basically for the air-conditioned places as they can freeze your tail off. Other than thatyou only need to be sure that you have comfy walking shoes (no flip flops) & summery easy care clothing. If anything, underpack & shop when you get here.

Having grown up there'bouts, my vote is Oct - habds down! The Cloisters will be stunning. I've lived in a lot of different parts of the country, and nothing beats the summer NYC iccky's. You gotta be there to know the wilt. October gold.
